This may need to be moved to the Draft Forum, but my son started attending Texas A&M this fall and I am attending the A&M vs Louisiana-Layfayette game tomorrow. I notice that GBND has Justin Warren (6-2 245) as the #5 ILB prospect.

Is he related to Ty Warren? I'm gonna watch him play closely.

No clue, but if he approaches the game the same way Ty Warren does, he'd probably look real good at ILB for the Patriots come next year's draft.

Bump. Just read p2v's thread which links to a Patriots.com piece about MLB's of the 2007 class.

I'm baffled by the lack of discussion regarding Justin Warren. He seems like the perfect fit for our D. We've really missed TJ's run stopping abilites in the middle the past two years, so why not draft in the mid to late rounds one of the best two down MLB's?

EDIT: I can see it now. "But statistically we're top notch in run D." Sure. But we've constantly been shuffling through guys to find Bruschi's partner. We need stability. And we shouldn't settle for a 35+ year old.

Saw him play last season good football player but verrrrry slowww

J. Warren ran a 4.85 at the combine. Mehhh. But run stuffing specialists don't need to be lightning fast. J. Warren's forty is a much better effort than 3rdish rounder Jon Abbate's 5.00. I'd love to see what TJ ran way back in '95.

Exactly, I don't believe that the 2 ILB's in the 3-4 have it as their primary responsibilty to be able to play sideline to sideline. It would be nice but not entirely necessary.

I've read several write ups on him and there is no reason that he cannot be a solid 2 down run stuffer. The rap on him is that he has never played up to the expectations for him. Inconsistant is the word, if I spelled it right.

I saw a couple A&M games, he appeared to be a real leader and was always around the ball. Whether that translates to the pro game is anyone's guess. He sounds pretty similar to Roach from Alabama who was a UDFA last year and couldn't make the team.

Bump to the top as congrats are in order to Seymour93. Over a month ago, he suggested the following:

Think we all thought maybe the ILB Bishop of Cal or Everette, but this kid seems better when I checked on all angles and what the experts say. He pulled up in the 40 with a groin at the combine and still did a 4.9 which was bad for him, but his first ten matched Willis was around Beason. He was the biggest ILB invited to the draft. Very long arms. Hurt as he was, his broad jump was great for a big ILB.
At Pro day he increased his Verticle to a 35" form 30". Can't get his speed but they say low of 4.79 to high of 4.82. Beats a 4.9 I guess. According to the combine, not much slower than Beason at low 4.7's.
Led A&M in tackles in a tough conference.
Said to have a great v shaped torso but he needs the weight room (16 reps).
You see reports on him that he covers very well, than the next report is a two down run stuffer. More seem to say he can cover though.

With those freakishly long arms of his, I'm not too concerned about the reps. I've got freakishly long arms, and can't get 10 reps, and I think I'm stronger than just about everybody I know (granted, nowhere near NFL player strength) In fact, I get nervous when guys put up 25+ reps, because in all probability they have short stubby arms. I'm sure Warren's functional strength is fine.

Lets hold hope against hope but if I was setting the line I would put it at:
- 3% chance of being on a 45 man game roster
- 7% chance of making the 53 man roster
- 20% chance he makes the practice squad

Out of curiosity, what was Ted Johnson's 40 time?

dont look at 40 times and compare Beason to Warren..Beason is 4.4 speed on the field.

little biased remix cuz u r a u fan

no im not being biased..its the truth. Timmons and Beason on the field are a lot faster than their 4.6-4.7. Waren without his 40 is still not very athletic or fast on the field. Hes a good fit for SILB. Everyone expected Timmons-Beason to run 4.4 or early 4.5s

the defense A&M runs covered up Warren's speed. Hes a good player though..hes around the ball..hits hard. but dont expect him to be much of ad ifferent maker. ever
