Per Adam Schefter, he has asked to be traded.

Personally, I would trade for the guy if it doesn't cost too much. I would never think the Pats would trade with Cleveland while Mangini is there, but I think Belichick and Holmgren have a decent relationship and have made a trade or two in the past. With Holgren calling the shots, a trade like this is far more likely to happen.

I wished the Pats were able to claim him off of waivers ;ast season, but unfortunately the Browns had a far higher waiver claim. Roth would be a better option than what the Pats had in free agency this offseason.

The Pats didn't go after him for a 2nd round tender. Maybe if the Browns would settle on a conditional later round pick, it might get a trade done.

I will file this under a long, long shot, but I think he could definitely be an immediate contender to start with the Pats if traded.

Have you ever BEEN to Cleveland?

I wanted him last season when he left Miami. I would take him now.

If he came here, he'd presumably be behind at least Brady and Mankins for an extension. That wouldn't make him any happier.

With Mayo, Spikes, Guyton and McKenzie where we playing him?

He's an outside guy. At 6'4'', 275#, he has pretty good size, but his 4.8 40 time (5 years ago) is questionable. He also had 4 sacks in 6 games with the Browns.

I had to look at the title twice

... I had a Mike ruth nightmare.

Roth was a locker room problem who talked his way out of Miami. The Dolphins, with very little depth at OLB, needed him, and saw fit to let him go regardless. Count me as a "no" for Roth.

Why would he be behind Brady's and Mankin's extension. I don't get this "we can't extend anyone until we extend the high price guys". At most, Roth will get a low mid-tier extension for his position and would have no bearing on either Brady or Mankins.

If he was going to get a Julius Peppers contract, I could see that logic. But for low and mid quality guys, you are hamstringing the team by halting all business to get the big guys done.

If the Pats were to trade for Roth, they would have a contract extension already agreed to before the trade. And it would have nothing to do with Brady or Mankins.

Exactly how much do you think Roth is going to get paid when he was dumped for nothing by the Dolphins mid-last season?

Well, a guy who got cut and now wants to get traded over his contract sounds pretty sketchy. I'd left him compete for a job in camp, not sure he would earn one, but I wouldn't give up much to get him and certainly wouldn't throw him a new contract.

Short arms, supposedly short in the desire dept., short stint with the Phins, even shorter with the Browns...sorry..don't want to get the short end of the stick with this guy

Do I hear the words " locker room cancer ??? "

1. He's a defensive end. Does he even have the skillset to play outside linebacker?
2. His stats aren't all that impressive. 4 sacks per year at that position is pretty mediocre.

3. We're not going to pay him big bucks and the reason he wants to leave is Cleveland is not willing to pay him big money.

1. No, he's not a defensive end, he's a linebacker. That's the only position he's played as a starter in the NFL. And yes, he is a starting-quality 3-4 OLB, although not an exceptional one.

2. He had 4 sacks in only 6 games last year after being traded, so motivation is probably his biggest issue, not talent.

3. Roth would be a nice player to have if it weren't for his attitude problems, but then if he didn't have those he wouldn't be available.

Thomas would be a nice player to have if it weren't for his attitude problems (sic)
