Shawn Crable shapes up - BostonHerald.com

Any positive signs in TC could certainly leap frog him over anyone who is currently ahead of him as in Cain,Burgess,Nincovich and even rookie Cunningham.

Good to see his weight is more distributed.

This guy is definately on the bubble and I hope he can at least show something,it would be sad to say he was never able to because he was always hurt before week 1.

It seems to me like his heart and desire is there as a pro...will his body be? remains to be seen.

Re: Crable is ready,is he able?

I guess we can look forward to snippets from TC to see how he does. Not feelin the beard though, that thing looks stuck on, man.

Re: Crable is ready,is he able?

Crable is such an unknown it is difficult to tell anything, except he seems to be in really good shape...

Re: Crable is ready,is he able?

I remember him having real skinny legs, which probably led to his injuries. Hopefully, he can contribute, but its been a long time since he has hit anyone, or taken a hit......so I expect some of the newer players to be above him on the depth chart for just that reason.

Re: Crable is ready,is he able?

2 years of working out, learning playbook and NFL, taking HGH and female fertility drugs should have him ready to contribute. I am pessimistically optimistic!!!

Re: Crable is ready,is he able?

Willie Mac was 6'5" 265-270.

I do hope Crable has a fine career. Not holding my breath though.

Crable's put on five massive pounds in two years. What a ridiculous article.

Re: Crable is ready,is he able?

The one preseason game he played in, against Baltimore his rookie year in 2008 when he had 4 tackles, half a sack and an interception, continues to tease me. He looked very impressive in that game as a pass rusher, edge setter, and even cover player for an OLB. IF by some miracle he could stay healthy, I think he could be a player.

Re: Crable is ready,is he able?

I guess that article now kicks off the third annual Shaun Crable overhype machine in training camp again... Look it would be nice to see something from him, but right now he is just training camp fodder until proven otherwise...

Re: Crable is ready,is he able?

I am not sold on the way BB handles OLBs. He tries to convert every player; even 3-4 veterans are converted to "pats system" LBs. Everyone has such a steep learning curve here, even proven veterans like Burgess; let alone the youngsters. It takes so long to bring a guy up to speed and see playing field and then find out they are not the answer (see Woods). Why not throw them out there early? It's not as if we are losing much. The OLB playing was very poor either way, why not throw youngsters out there.

Even if we drafted Brian Cushing and Clay Mathews, I think BB will still sit them and not let them play and mess them with "Pats" techniques. It's a total mess up the way he coaches OLBs. I really don't think Cunningham will see adquate playing time this year.

The root of OLB problems is BB.

Re: Crable is ready,is he able?

Why the hate on the player. He was put on IR for bogus injuries. I am sure he did not ask for that. Look at the puppet master. When was the last time he had success developing a OLB he drafted? 10 years ago?? BB sucks in this area (developing young OLBs). He has to rank at the very bottom of the league.

Don't hate the player; hate the system!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Crable is ready,is he able?

Personally, at this point, I expect zero from Crable. Two straight years on IR with no NFL experience, I think he faces a tough road to even make the final 53 man roster. If he provides anything, I will be happy. If he becomes a valued contributor, I will be estatic. If he is not part of the final 53 man roster, I won't be shocked.

Re: Crable is ready,is he able?

I've given up on Crable. He says he is 100% healthy & hasn't played a down of football in 3 years yet he only "feels pretty good" & "we'll see if I can do better this time". This guy seems very very soft. Crable makes JD Drew look like Cal Ripken.

In the Pro Football Weekly Draft Preview he was listed as 6'4.5", 255 when he was drafted. He wasn't always the weight he was later in his career.

I remember that pick as well, it was an extraordinarily athletic play, especially from a guy who never had to drop back into coverage in college.

He'sbeen an ENORMOUS tease. I guess the good news is that expectations on him are SO low at this point, that ANYTHING he produces will be considered a plus.

Agreed. The guy gets points in my book for attitude and determination as well, so hopefully it will translate into something good for the team.

He has thrown his LBs out there some it just hasnt worked out that way on the Outside....Mayo and Guyton were thrown out there basically immediately and they both looked really good but you could also see that at times they were lost or a step slow because they were thinking (those two have the speed to make up for it). I think the knowledge issue wont be as big a problem for this years youth as I think there are more specific roles for this group and the entire front seven. Seven position and at least 12 players with some sort of role with in when you count Tiny, Vince, Gerrard Warren, Lewis, Wright, Burgess, Cunningham, TBC, Mayo, Guyton, Spikes, McKenzie not to mention guys like Brace, Pryor, Crable, Ninkovich, and anyone else I may have left off this list. Regardless of who actually grabs the starting spots there are plenty of guys that will have specific roles which will make it easier on them.

Physical dimensions does not mean you can play football.

Example: Gholston (6'4" 260lbs) vs. Freeney (6'1" 265lbs)

During draft, they said Gholston looked like a monster with
massive arms. 1st round pick

During draft, they said Freeney does not have the size to play
DE. 1st round pick

Ignorant comments like this are proof that some people should just keep their mouth shut. Crable has played in pre-season games in each of the last 2 years. So, he HAS played a down.. And he was drafted in 2008.. That was only 2 years ago.. As for your comparison.. again, ignorant.

That had to been one of you guys that just called Sirius NFL and asked Randy Cross about Crable. I was reading this thread and all of a sudden they are talking Shawn Crable on nationwide radio. Pretty funny.
