i was having this discussion with a couple of friends after the celtics win last night.........i for one feel. that both these athletes give more importance to regular season games (even the ones which are meaningless to their group standings) than the postseason,i may be wrong here but i have always felt that records matter the most to both of them than winning championships.
one of my pals was of the opinion that lebron was worse than peyton when it came to choking.
Your thoughts?

Seems like an easy debate to me.

Records in the Championship game

Peyton 1-1
Lebron 0-1

can we give the celtics d a little credit, plz?

No - Peyton has won a Super Bowl, and has consistently lead his respective teams deep into the playoffs every year.

Lebron OTOH has regressed - ever since he lead his team to the Finals in 2007, his Cavs teams have found a way to short-circuit since. In 2008 they were the mere 4th seed(no excuse, as their rival Pistons were getting old and had a scrub C in Chris Webber), in 2009 they got beat badly by a Magic team that struggled badly against their other inferior and injury-riddled opponents in that year's playoffs.

I mentioned this in other threads - but Lebron reminds me more of Tony Romo - the word ENIGMA comes to mind. When he's hot, he's hot, his team is winning, and it's for a long stretch. But once he gets cold, it will be for a long stretch to the point where you wonder if he'll get out of it, and ends up bringing his team down with him. Overall, so many questions, but very few answers.

Peyton at least has a ring. Sure, he may be one of the biggest chokers in history of professional sports, but at least once, he got the monkey off his back.

Lebron is just another guy who has racked up huge stats without the ability to win in the postseason. I'm tired of hearing excuses for him and people talking about his supporting cast. Good players go to his team and suddenly drastically underperform - is it a coincidence? Doubtful. First Mo Williams was going to be enough to put them over the top, then it was Shaq, then it was Jamison. The bottom line is, that squad has about 9 guys who could start on any NBA team. If it isn't good enough to win a title - you have to ask what the #1 player on the team is doing wrong, not the #9.

To me, I don't see why Lebron is any different than say Melo or Iverson - someone who puts up HOF numbers, but doesn't have a ring. There is no way Lebron should get mentioned in the breath as a Jordan - or even a Kobe - until he has MULTIPLE rings.

lebron is a choker but manning won a championship last time i checked. there is no comparison

jordan won a title his 7th year in the league, if lebron wants at least one, he's going to have to wait till his 8th

peyton , it took how many years? a ****load
same with elway, took him forever

Dan Marino never won a Super Bowl, Donovan McNabb hasn't won one in his 11 years, the 3 QBs Joe Gibbs won SBs with in Washington fell off the radar almost immediately afterwards, Troy Aikman had the luxury of the Herschel Walker trade-otherwise, No Emmitt Smith/Darren Woodson/a massive OL/a deep DL rotation, you name it, an above-average Trent Dilfer won one largely b/c he had one of the greatest Ds behind him of all time, etc.

Pt being that it's awfully difficult to win a Super Bowl-in Philly, more of the blame should go on Andy Reid b/c he'll go into long stretches where he'll LOVE the pass and forget about the run + Jim Johnson's D would get torched in the playoffs.

Who knows why the Cavs short-circuited 2 straight years - they were making alot of progress when in '06 they pushed a great Pistons team to the brink and softened them up heading into the next round, then beat the Pistons in the ECF to go to the Finals, and went to game 7 in the Semi Round against a team that later won it all, etc.

Peyton Manning has been involved in many more chokes than LeBron as a result of playing longer. He also has a ring as a result of playing longer.

You can't judge two players with such a difference in years in their league.

Jordan was 28 when he won his first title, years in the NBA isn't the be all and end all. Its actually amazing that people are dishing him because he didn't do what MJ did anyways.

I'm a Celtics fan and Boston are imo unbeatable when Pierce and Ray Allen hit form together because you then have four superstars on the floor and Perkins isn't too bad either.

The Celtics deserve huge credit for stopping the LeBron and the Cavs. I'd like to see LeBron with a good coach to see what happens. LeBron still hasn't found his Scottie Pippen, Larry Bird had Parish, Magic had Jabar, Kobe had Shaq and now has Gasol. When he finds that teammate that he just has that special bond with he will win championships.

Jordan is the bar for these types of players when he's the exception.

Players like Ewing, Barkley, McGrady, Malone are way more common than players like Jordan, Bird, Magic, etc.
