In his defense wouldn't they be ionic in addition to iconic- after all, we do put them up on pedestals in reverence and admiration at their achievements :D

Michael Mathews was also a great player.

Maybe he really was trying to say "ironic." What that might've meant I have no idea, but Mumbles seemed to have no idea what he was trying to say.

Why does that guy keep getting elected?

Because compared to Boston voters, he's a genius?

I'll never forget the moment when Brady hit Sam Cassell in the endzone in 2001.

Truley, one of the greatest moments as a sports fan for me.

For me, the greatest moment is when David Ortiz shattered the TD passing mark for a single season in 2007.

Re: What we thought we knew about the Super Bowl years was wrong!

Bobby Orr was the greatest hockey player that Ive ever seen.

He used to kill penalties by himself skating around in circles while the other team tried to get the puck away from him. Always a class act. He used to flip the puck up in the air to the referees with his stick for a face off.

Espisito, Sanderson, McKenzie, Hodge, Cheevers, Johnston, Bucyk, Cashman,Orr

Re: Menino, mayor of Boston, credits Varitek with kicking SB36 game-winning FG.

What is "Ionic" ... :confused2:

Said Menino:

"Boston has an amazing set of remarkable athletes whose actions in the moment have become ionic (sic) in sports. (John) Havlicek stole the ball. Fisk waved the ball fair. (Doug) Flutie launched the Hail Mary pass. Varitek split the uprights."

John Kerry's most beloved Red Sox player: Manny Ortez

Re: What we thought we knew about the Super Bowl years was wrong!

I thought Varitek split Heidi Watney.

He just meant they were charged up, baby!

Re: What we thought we knew about the Super Bowl years was wrong!

I probably shouldn't be throwing stones, but you guys have an idiot for a mayor.

Re: Menino, mayor of Boston, credits Varitek with kicking SB36 game-winning FG.

And yet, he (& Kerry) keep getting re-elected.

Re: What we thought we knew about the Super Bowl years was wrong!

Who could forget when Bobby Orr hit that 3 at the buzzer in the garden to beat the Rams and win the World Series?

Post of the thread...nice to tie the big four sports together at once

Maybe she meant that his actions have become the most ionic breeze moments in sports?

I thought he was talking about Gin and Tonic which leads me to think of Vin Baker, hey didn't the patriots have a TE named Baker, Speaking of the Patriots they won some SBs with Iconic FGs, Didn't Millar like Gin too, and Millar won the world series playing with Varitek. There you have it six degrees of seperation to Mumbles Menino's Gin and Tonic Varitek Splits the upright comment.

These long off seasons have got to go:rocker:
