Every Year there is a formerly winning team whose record collapses to losing territory. Who is your candidate for this Year's collapse?

I nominate three teams.

New York Jets. perhaps the shallowest winning team in the League. There is no depth anywhere. They might have fine front line players but you can't win that way. Last season thtey were blessed with no critical injuries, and many had career seasons. Normality returns and the Jets get the expectednumbers of injuries. Injuries devastate them since they have essentially nobody to replace a single front line player. "Sanchize" plays like a young QB that he is. Jets finish behind the Dolphins and Patriots...

Pittsburg Steelers. The Steel Curtain is rusted; the team has had aging lines, that are progressively getting worse. The key to a winning team is the quality of their lines, and having to face little or no competition in their Divsion. Add in the problems with Rothlesberger and the Steelers fall behind the Ravens and Bengals...

SanDiego Chargers. This would be an easy pick except there is no one to take their place in the Division. The Coach is a loser, and the Team crested the Year they fired the Coach who built them. They have been getting progressively worse, ever since. Here they could totally collapse and still end up playing .500 ball, while never beating a single team with a winning record.

I can see the Steelers & the Jets finishing below .500 not the Chargers though, as much as I hate him, Rivers is a top 5 QB plus as you said their division is awful.

I'm not sure I'd consider the Jets and Steelers as teams capable of collapsing. Both barely finished above .500, with the Steelers missing the play-offs entirely and the Jets getting a spot thanks to a gift from the Colts. They both could finish around the same mark this season.

The Chargers might be regressing, but there's no one good enough to overtake them in that division.

My pick would be the Bengals, because a) they're the Bungles and b) they went 6-0 in the division, and I don't see that happening again.

MM Im going to find fault with this, if that's ok. The team is relativity unchanged. The RB lost of Bell was not a big deal, we were pretty deep there, and the CB, OL,TE and DL positions are 6 deep at this time.

This will be figured out in training camp. Your essentially facing the same team next year but with a better DL and CB depth. Plus your add Moore to the WR core, who is capable of being a #1 receiver.

I think your going to see the same top #1 - #4 offense you have seen for 5 years, and a more consistent #10 defense under G.W.s 2nd year of building.

I dont think this gets us close to the , collapse category.

I can see this happening again, the same Aints thinking from other tems, but as long as Payton, G.W., Brees, the #1-#2 OL, Greer, and I can go on for awhile are on this team, the NFL teams need to take us seriously. We didn't beat the Patriots because we were better, we beat them because they didn't take us seriously, BB will not make that mistake again, hes very good.
This is a very good team, and I think we got better from last year. I think, seeing that the right calls where made by the CS, you have not seen anything yet. Payton wants another SB, and in my mind only the Patriots stand in our way, and they are very good. Im not sucking up here its football, BB is amazing and Brady is the same, its common sense.

But your making a mistake if you dont follow the Saints accomplishments. They don't deserve this category, we are not fluke, and that will be proven, next year. The same dominate offense for 5 years and the same NFL teams that don't take us seriously insures it.

The league better pray, then, that Gronk and Hernandez are slow learners. . . . Once they get going, the Patriots offense could cause even more problems than the Saints offense.

Cardinals - Leinart. Can Breaston step up and still no quality at TE. 2 receiver team with average defense.
Eagles - McNabb gone. Kolb is way overhyped. Sheldon Brown was better than Asante. With no great Safeties, that Secondary is exposed. They should have taken Earl Thomas ahead of Brandon Graham

This seems like a good list. The Eagles are going to fined out just how important McNabb was to tha team.

Completely agree, tho I'm praying it happens. Pats are good fans, it would be a fun SB Patriots vs Saints. Tho Im not sure if we get by the payoffs, I think we got lucky we didnt play GB last year.

I betting on
Vikings = Ive never seen Farve have 2 good years in a row + they didn't fix there #20 ranked OL in the off season.

Cardinals = They let Boldin go, and Leinart isnt any good

Jets = SM is not ready yet and they destroyed their only strength, backfield by getting LT. People are wise to their smash mouth football and I see most other teams investing in the RB spot. Saints proved if you have a better QB and play them the same way, with a 3 headed dragon in the backfield, you will beat them.

I agree about the Chargers too; bad drafft. The Cowboys had an ever worse draft; I expect a letdown year from them.

I disagree about the Eagles; they had an outstanding draft; maybe the best in the NFL or second to the Patriots. I look for them to have a dominant D this year. They really beefed up their defense in this draft. Look at who they got; holy smokes:

You can't judge a draft before any of them play a snap in the NFL. They got big name guys with question marks that made them fall. That doesn't make it a good draft.

My predictions for three teams that had a winning record in 2009 that will have a losing season in 2010:

Cardinals
Eagles
Texans

I considered the Chargers, but based on the strength (or lack of) of the rest of the division, I don't see them having a losing record. I also considered both the Steelers and Bengals, but it was difficult to pick which one. Pittsburgh could be done in by their offensive line; the Bengals just don't seem to ever be able to get it together for more than one season at a time. The Falcons were another consideration but I see them on the way up, not down; plus they play the Browns, the NFC West, and Carolina and Tampa Bay twice each.


Edit: I agree the Eagles had an excellent draft. However, in my opinion it usually takes more than a year for most draftees to have an impact.

Had all the bolded guys picked - for the Pats. Now, of course, I'm conflicted about whether or not I want to see them do well.

You are right but on paper they had a killer draft. Ricky Sapp had the question mark but I don't think that Brandon Graham and Nate Allen did. Holy smokes. Daniel Te'o-Nesheim seems like a nice pick but maybe drafted too early. They loaded up on D and got a TE and WR also. A smoking hot draft. Right up there with the Patriots; maybe better because of Graham.

I don't believe all the bunk about rookies not making an impact for 3 years. Maybe for QBs but the NY Giants got a Super Bowl the year they drafted 4 impact guys in the 2'd round. We should know by mid season whether the Eagles or Patriots had the killer draft.

As far as Dallas they got a locker room cancer and a bag of balls. I look for collapse from them.

No because they got an irresponsible kid and a whole lot of nothing in the draft. An they have and owner who is an enabler for someone like Bryant. And an owner who peed away most of his draft picks. Wasn't Bryant late for his first Dallas press conference? What are the other players gonna think.
