News - Bobby Carpenter Hoping For More Playing Time

They are looking to trade him for a JAG OL-man. He didn't do badly at OLB but didn't fare so well when moved inside. We have the draft choices and probably an OL-man to swap if the interest is there. Relatively young and would provide some experience at the LB position.

Are Murrell and possibly Alexander worth not giving this guy a shot?

OLB (5) - Banta-Cain, Cunningham, Ninkovich, Woods, Murrell
ILB (5) - Mayo, Spikes, Guyton, McKenzie, Alexander

I think it would be worth a look see, but I won't claim any special insight here.

Re: Bobby Carpenter (LB) available......any interest?

If it didn't cost more than a 7, I'd gladly give him a shot.

Re: Bobby Carpenter (LB) available......any interest?

Uh...I'll pass.

Re: Bobby Carpenter (LB) available......any interest?

Aren't we better than picking up Dallas' busts?

Re: Bobby Carpenter (LB) available......any interest?

Nope......

Re: Bobby Carpenter (LB) available......any interest?

Now might be a good time to bump the inevitable thread complaining about how BB passed on Barbie Carpenter in that draft. ;)

Re: Bobby Carpenter (LB) available......any interest?

Most Cowboy fans I've talked to think he's a dummy. Besides the goal is to add talent.

Hmmmmmmm.....a LB corps that included Adam Seward and Bobby Carpenter sounds very intriguing........:rocker::rolleyes:

hey - another LB that many fans were interested in a couple years ago, who hasn't performed well in the NFL.
Vernon Gholston!
Derrick Harvey!
Everette Brown!

However, one can also point to Jon Beason (142 tackles, who many here wanted over Maroney), or Clay Matthews (10 sacks as a rookie, taken three slots after the Patriots position in the 2009 draft, who many here wanted rather than trading down for Ron Brace).

But, the point isn't whether a bunch of fans are good or bad at projecting the performance of college linebackers. It is that the Patriots have really failed to draft and groom a good young outside linebacker since Willie McGinest in 1994. Whether we have a great hit rate is sort of immaterial. It's more important that Belichick and the Patriots succeed at that.

Hopefully, ILB is in a much better situation with Mayo, Spikes, and McKenzie.

He had his fans here for sure, but the Pats never had a chance to pass on him. Manny Lawson was another story....

All in all, stunningly few impact players came out of that 1st round. And to think that choosing Mario Williams first cost the GM his job.

Mario Williams - DE
Reggie Bush - RB
Vince Young - QB
D'Brickashaw Ferguson - OT
A.J. Hawk - LB
Vernon Davis - TE
Michael Huff
Donte' Whitner
Ernie Sims - LB
Matt Leinart - QB
Jay Cutler - QB
Haloti Ngata - DT
Kamerion Wimbley - DE
Brodrick Bunkley - DT
Tye Hill
Jason Allen
Chad Greenway - LB
Bobby Carpenter - LB
Antonio Cromartie
Tamba Hali - DE
Laurence Maroney - RB
Manny Lawson - DE
Davin Joseph - OG
Johnathan Joseph
Santonio Holmes - WR
John McCargo - DT
DeAngelo Williams - RB
Marcedes Lewis - TE
Nick Mangold
Joseph Addai - RB
Kelly Jennings
Mathias Kiwanuka - DE

Re: Bobby Carpenter (LB) available......any interest?

ur right, theres only like 4 players i would want from that round on this team right now...

Ngata would be first, the only real superstar from the bunch

Few really good players indeed. Some decent guys, but not to the level that teams and pundits expected. Vernon Davis certainlt turned it around this year, and Bush has made some big plays, etc.

Re: Bobby Carpenter (LB) available......any interest?

Bob Carpenter ... not a good name both in football and hockey ...

Re: Bobby Carpenter (LB) available......any interest?

I wanted BB to take Carpenter but he made the wise move and stayed put and drafted Maroney. :snob:

I don't know, the hockey Bobby Carpenter at least was productive. One 50 goal season, 320 career goals and 700+ career points ain't nothing to sneeze at. Certainley not a Hall of Famer but definitely not a bust.

That doesn't look like a bad first round to me. I see 8 busts.

Hard to believe you wouldn't take Mangold or Addai on this team.

Wrong draft.

He never turned out to be the "stud" LB Parcells hoped for when we drafted him in 2006, but nonetheless, I liked his contributions overall. He's been a great ST player, and has done a nice servicable job when Wade inserted him on D last year. He didn't play great, but he played nicely in the system, and not badly at all. I hope he stays b/c we're not exactly that deep at LB in our 3-4. Again, he's done a nice job, and is good in pass coverage, and wasn't exactly a "bad apple".

Honestly - I think Parcells had a love for him b/c he coached his father in NYG.

This was Parcells' downfall here in Dallas - he was going for alot of his older guys from previous teams,as well as any "connections" he's had in the past(i.e. Bobby b/c he coached his father Rob).
