Nearly two weeks after the Raiders acquired quarterback Jason Campbell and nearly a week after quarterback JaMarcus Russell reported for and participated in a mandatory minicamp, the Raiders have cut ties with the first overall pick in the 2007 draft.

The Raiders will save $6.45 million in 2010 base salary. They owe him $3 million in guaranteed base salary.

That's a great shame.

Having JaMarcus on the Raiders was the best chance the Patriots had at getting a top five pick, or as Bill would call it, seven second rounders. There was always the chance that someone would get injured and he would play.

No harm with inviting him to camp, or trying him out. I think he sucks, but maybe BB, TB, and the organization can salvage his career. I doubt it, but if it's free, with no risk, why not.

BTW, I agree with that other poster. Worst 1st overall pick in history. I remember wondering what it was people saw in him.

It's not that Belichick can improve him, or Brady. The kid has apparently zero desire to play, hes got his payday, and that's good enough for him despite his tremendous potential with his talent. With the way he threw it if you could have taught him some footwork and ability to play in a pro offense, he could've been scary good.

But even with his talent, I wouldn't want him near our franchise, he doesn't represent what the Patriots stand for.

Oh man it would be just so funny if we signed him up and he won the no.2 berth and the Raiders have a horrible year and in 2016 the Patriots win the Superbowl with all-pro and probowl QB JaMarcus Russell and the all-pro and probowl 1st round pick from 2011
