From Peter King's MMQB:

I think the Brett Favre ankle-surgery story from the other day will have little to do with whether he plays this season, the same way something I heard the other day will have little to do with whether he plays. An NFL player who knows the quarterback well told me Favre said to him after the season, "I'm 100 percent positive I'll never put on pads again in my life.''

The reason I don't make that a headline is simple: Favre changes his mind as often as I drink a latte. Which is to say, a lot. We've seen it often in the last 26 months. Let's just wait and see what the summer brings. And the fall.

I've said a couple of things as a Favre-watcher this offseason: I'm finished predicting what he'll do, because I've been wrong every time I've predicted recently. And if I had to go to Vegas, based on the long emotional scene with several teammates and coaches in the locker room after the NFC Championship Game loss to the Saints, I'd bet he plays this fall. He loves that team. But please, keep your money in your pocket. That's where mine is staying.

ESPN should really open an office in Kilne, MS. It would make it easier and more cost effective than flying a crew down there every year. It should be about two weeks before we hear it is 100% certain he will play again followed by the inevitable retirement reports again.

Re: OT:The Brett Favre Retirement Tango Begins Again

The most annoying thing every NFL season. I know its cruel, but you almost want to see a career-ending injury so he can finally leave the game.

He's been playing in the NFL one year before I was born, it's nuts....

Re: OT:The Brett Favre Retirement Tango Begins Again

The Favre saga is like rain, you know it will happen, just not sure when ;)

Re: OT:The Brett Favre Retirement Tango Begins Again

I've decided I have no problem with Favre playing until the day he dies...

Just please, for the love of all that is holy, STOP acting so emotional at the end of every season. We all know you're going to come back. You look like a buffoon.

He's like that girl we all know who breaks up with her boyfriend every other month and spends a week in the bathroom crying and burning their vacation pictures. Don't worry sweetie, you'll be back together and "talking about getting married" by the weekend.

Re: OT:The Brett Favre Retirement Tango Begins Again

Every year at this time, I pray he gets hit by a bus, just so we don't have to listen to the media slather their saliva all over his balls for another preseason.

God, I really hate Favre now.

Re: OT:The Brett Favre Retirement Tango Begins Again

Favre is playing in 2010. He is no more serious about leaving than he has been the last 5 years when he never was actually serious about walking away.

He has 2 goals - get his name in the headlines as much as he can and find an excuse he can use to skip training camp. This ankle injury accomplishes both of those.

God, how I dislike this yearly Favrewatch. Why can't he just make a desicion and stick with it, for once in his life?

To give him credit, though, Peter King seems about ready to wash his hands of the whole thing. Any other year this story would have been King's headline. He's finally wised up that Favre uses him.

I hope Favre comes back and plays. The game is more fun to watch with him in it and it would really add some spice to our meeting with the Vikings this year. However, I too hate his constant waffling. People who cannot make up their mind get under my skin like there's no tomorrow.

But Favre doesn't actually waffle at all. He pretends to waffle to get his name in headlines. He's not indecisive at all, he is just a media whore.

Where have you been this **** started months ago :D

My bro in law, from Minnesota, and a huge fan.. gets raving made about his drama....

If there wasn't this ridiculous drama, I would happily see him return. He actually seems to love playing the game, and still throws blocks on runs at his age. He has always had more guts and ability than desire to practice and prepare, so I would not say he is phoning in his preseason any more or less than he previously has done.

Unfortunately, much of this mess is media driven by virtue of questions asked that he has no intention of answering. Responses like "still thinking," "not sure," etc. only feed the media speculation resulting in the dance over the past few years.

They can take it the first year for free but the second year is going to cost him dearly...

3 goals - make 12 million an yr. which to me the biggest motivating factor which the media never points out. he wont play for any less and even asked the jets for raise when they traded for him

I know it may sound cruel to some, but I've been thinking the same thing for a couple years now. Unless he's dead or in a wheelchair, we'll have to put up with this crap for another offseason. Even if he DOES make a decision, we all know now it won't mean a damn thing anyway.

It wouldn't be so bad if the media didn't slobber over him so much. You'd think his last name was Manning.

The thing is, the ol' hillbilly brought this on himself by doing this "Will I or won't I?" dance every year since, what, 2003? But while he brought it on himself, it's the rest of us who have to suffer for it.

As does the rest of the NFL and media ;)

Favre is going to play until his body finally fails him.

It benifits all parties involved for Favre to publicly waffle over his future. Favre gets to miss as much camp time as possible. The Vikings get to try to play up the strategic advantage of making opponents think QB undecided. The sports media gets their big draw story. Why announce a return before August?

I bet Favre returns and Childress knows it.

Tavaris Jackson is currentlly #1 on the Vikings' depth chart. Unless something changes on that, we know without a doubt that Fav-re is coming back.

Even if he does come back, he will not be 100% accurate like 5 years ago in GB

You do realize that last year was statistically the best year of his career, right?
