1. Pats win the Superbowl

2. Oakland implodes & goes 0-16

3. Jets go 1-15 ( & make a pick with the #2 overall that makes the Gholston pick look genius by comparison )

4. rookie wage cap goes in

5. Jake Locker is hyped as the next coming of John Elway

6. We make a small trade down with the #1 overall pick for a future #1 & that teams high 1st ( 3-5 range )

7. We draft Robert Quinn NC OLB who becomes the next LT ( the original LT, not the guy on the Jets that sulks on the bench in January )

8. I win the lottery :D

Oakland looks to have improved but they have a crappy coach, a bad o-line & a tradition of sucking. Most feel that they will be decent to good but don't give up hope on that #1 overall pick yet, they are a few key injuries away from being dreadful next year.

If one of the hyped QB's has a great year & a team or two fall in love with him we would be looking at holding the most valuable draft pick off all time. ( rookie wage scale )

What would you do with the number 1 overall pick next year if my rosy view of the future comes to pass?

You have a better chance of #8 than the other 7 happening

I just want Robert Quinn. Don't care how it happens.

Marcel Dareus if he comes out as a redshirt Sophomore. Or Robert Quinn. Just a freak DE.

Oakland may be improved, but they are far from contention and still may be a last place team. Jason Campbell has achieved nothing as an NFL QB, the Redskins only playoff appearances in his tenure were the work of Mark Brunnell and Todd Collins, Campbell has won nothing.

Everyone seems to be forgetting that Oaklands line and skill position players are terrible. Chaz Shillens, Darrius Heyward Bey, are you kidding me? The Raiders would have been an 8-8 team at best with McNabb, never mind Campbell.

I agree people are over rating the raiders if anything, they could be 8-8 or they could lose their 1st 4 games, Crable gets fired, the team packs it in & they go 3-13.

Robert Quinn would be a perfect OLB for us, 6'6 260 broke Julius Peppers team positional record running a 4.5 40  This guy is that rare physical freak that come along once every 10 years or so, if we is on the board when our pick is up we MUST take him.

Ideal? H'mmm...

NFL & NFLPA negotiate a rookie wage scale this Fall and implement it prior to the 2011 draft as a preliminary step to reaching a new CBA accord.

NE wins the Super Bowl, Oakland finishes 4-12/5-11 again, Carolina finishes 2-14/3-13...

NE (via Oakland) picks between #5 - #10, trades down a few spots picking up a 2011 mid-Fourth. Selects an impact player no one was expecting, creates a media and message board meltdown.

NE trades #32 into the top five of Day Two, exchanges fourth round picks (NE's Fourth approx. #130) and gives up a 7th, giving NE a top five pick at the start of Day Three.

NE (#33-#38 via trade) Selects another Logan Mankins/Matt Light stud.

NE (via Carolina) picks between #33 - #38. Trades back picking up a mid-Second and mid Third round picks.

NE (mid-Second via trade) trades for a 2012 First round pick with whichever team looks likely to go 4-12 in 2011 (Chicago for instance).

NE picks #64 and selects a developmental player no one has heard of who improves to Pro-Bowl starter status in two years, but creates another media and messageboard meltdown in the interim.

NE (mid-Third via trade) trades for a 2012 Second round pick.

NE picking #96 trades back into the top ten of round Four for a 2012 Fifth...and so on. :D

You do mean Tom "Cable?" I'm still hoping "Crable" somehow remains healthy and has his "stuff" in one sock as an edge player and pass rusher this season. ;)

All good wishes. I could add a few:

  1. Felger gets fired and is sent back to Milwaukee to do minor league hockey for the rest of his career. Borges gets nailed for plaguerism and Callahan get canned for racism.

  2. Randy Moss signs another contract and fishes a long distinguished career as a Patriot hero with a couple of rings. The pubic finally realizes that Felger is a douche and Moss is a hero.

  3. The new playing surface cuts down on injuries or the Patriots rip it up and replace it with grass.

  4. Mangini gets fires and cannot find work.

You might as well add that Carolina ties Oakland for the worst record, but Oakland has a worse SOS so they pick first in the first round, and Carolina p[icks first in the second round, giving the Pats picks 1,32,& 33. WIth #33 becoming a very vaulable pick with the new draft format, giving BB all night to trade the pick.

Box I'm curious why you wouldn't want the #1 overall pick in the draft next year?

Even if there is no rookie cap ( small chance of this happening ) AND no stud QB emerges next year BB will be able to trade out of the #1 pick easily enough. ( #1 for #7 plus a 3rd, or something like that )

The reason the #1 overall almost never gets traded is because the team picking #1 overall is

1. horrible & needs fan support ( getting the consensus #1 player in the draft gets the fans excited & sells tickets )

2. Most GM's don't have the stones to trade away the #1 pick ( trading picks is risky, most GM's like to play it safe, if the #1 pick busts its bad luck, if you trade away the #1 pick & your pick busts you are getting fired )

3. The draft value chart is horrendously broken. The #1 pick is worth more than the #5, a 2nd rounder, a 3rd rounder AND a next years #1! ( supposedly the Browns offered the Rams #8, their 2nd rounder & both their 3rd rounders for the #1 this year & the Rams turned it down  see point #2 )

If a cap is in place & a great QB emerges next year the #1 pick will be worth what the draft value chart says it is & we could get the kind of package that can make a dynasty ( if we luck out & the raiders are horrid )

I'm going to be rooting for the raiders to lose almost as much as rooting for the Pats to win next year.

Fred I like your points as well, though I think hoping for those 3 d-bags in the media to leave us is hoping for too much. :D

good point but my genie limited me to 8 wishes & I rather have the Jets go 1-15 & bust with the #2 overall pick than have Carolina suck :D

A lot of early mocks have us taking Cameron Hayward and Von Miller

I hope next year we look seriously at a replacement for Moss and if Maroney has another poor year then a RB and future LT

  • Pats win Super Bowl

  • Pats draft an IMPACT player w/ Oakland's pick

  • Pats duplicate the Daniel Graham tradeup from #32 to #21 (a 3rd & 7th) and select an immediate starter

  • Pats trade Carolina's #2 for a 2012 #1 plus

  • Pats select a future starter w/ their own round two pick

My Realistic Draft Scerario for 2011:

Pats basicly pick in the same spot as this year, call it #27. This gives us #27 & #59 in the second round.

Oakland basically goes 8-8 and selects in the low teens, call it #14.......

Carolina is a bit better and picks at #18, that gives us their #50 in round two....

We own #'s 14, 27, 50 and 59! This might not be a dream scenario but it still qualifies as a wet dream for me. BB did a magnificent job working the board this year. Remains to be seen how these players look a year from now but I think McCourty, Gronkowski, Cunningham and Spikes looks like a very nice nucleus of young leaders on our team.

BB having a similar scenario to draft from next year is nothing short of phenomenal positioning for retooling a teams core leaders and play makers.

Well done! BB! "It is what it is, but it ain't what you think", indeed!

You'd have to be insane to want one.

The last trade involving a top 5 pick was 2005 when #1 was traded for #4, plus a 2006 first and another pick. Eli Manning was that #1, last year his NYJ, #5 overall NYC rival, Mark Sanchez, signed a "5" year deal worth more than Eli's "6" year deal. That's serious inflation.

Let's consider the idea of a rookie cap, the NFLPA has not been open to negotiating one - why, you might ask? It's not in the union', and their buddy's the super agents, best interest to have a rookie salary cap.
-- Sam Bradford is going to make $60M guaranteed;
-- that means Peyton Manning and Tom Brady should make at minimum $60M guaranteed when they negotiate new deals;
-- if the top guy's salaries go up, then the salaries of the guys who protect them, make them look good, and defend against them should also go up.
-- It's to the NFLPA's benefit to prevent a rookie cap.

Let's look at another aspect of this, the owners want a rookie salary cap, why give up a bargaining tool before the entire CBA is worked out? It benefits the NFLPA to prevent a rookie cap until they work out a new CBA. I don't foresee a rookie cap, and I seriously hope Oakland does not gift NE a top 5 pick.

Well I kind of agree with you except that if a new salary cap is implemented, I'm not talking rookie salary cap, there is only so much room under a cap to pay a Brady or Manning even if the starting point is 60 million.

Here is just a hypothetical, new CBA is negotiated and a new cap is in place tomorrow. New cap is 150 million, still no rookie cap, Bradford gets his 60 million and Brady's agent is licking his chops. If Bradfod gets 60 then Brady's worth is what, 120 million? Anyway the point is that 120 million guaranteed would be such an enormous percentage of the teams cap that it would be counterproductive for the team to offer such a contract. Whats the point of having Tom Brady if you go 4-12 every year because you can't afford to put anyone around him?

Basically if there is no cap this last paragraph means nothing but, if a new salary cap is put in without a rookie cap, I feel like it actually hurts players like Brady and Manning.

Which is part of the reason the NFLPA will now discuss a rookie cap.

This is crazy talk, the reason there are never trades is because the GMs picking at the top are dolts. If they want to trade down they hold out for max value ( & never get it).

Look at Jax this year, they said they didn't get good enough offers to trade down yet Denver traded down twice from #11 to #24 picking up a 4th rounder & 2 3rds. Jax could of had their guy @24 for less money + picked up 3 other valuable picks, instead they did what most idiotic GMs do & held out for chart value.

I guarantee you BB would never get stuck with a high pick if he didn't want it.

Look at the Mayo pick for example, he didn't want to pay #7 $ so traded back to #10 for very little. ( swapped a 5th for a 3rd )

THERE we go!
