... I know WR coach from one team watched Dez's tape, came out saying: "That's the best prospect I've seen at this position in 10 years."

Which of course begs the question: who did that scout see 10 years ago that was better than Bryant? Ten years ago could either mean anywhere between 1999 and 2001:

1999 1st round WRs: Torry Holt, David Boston, Troy Edwards

2000 1st round WRs: Peter Warrick, Plaxico Burress, Travis Taylor, Sylvester Morris, R. Jay Soward

2001 1st round WRs: David Terrell, Koren Robinson, Rod Gardner, Santana Moss, Freddie Mitchell, Reggie Wayne

...It's gotta be R. Jay Soward!

It's amazing how many of those players had legal, drug, alcohol, and/or suspension problems.

In case you were wondering...

2002 1st round WRs: Donte' Stallworth, Ashley Lelie, Javon Walker

2003 1st round WRs: Charles Rogers, Andre Johnson, Bryant Johnson

2004 1st round WRs: Larry Fitzgerald, Roy Williams, Reggie Williams, Lee Evans, Michael Clayton, Michael Jenkins, Rashaun Woods

2005 1st round WRs: Braylon Edwards, Troy Williamson, Mike Williams, Matt Jones, Mark Clayton, Roddy White

2006 1st round WRs: Santonio Holmes

2007 1st round WRs: Calvin Johnson, Ted Ginn, Dwayne Bowe, Robert Meachem, Buster Davis, Anthony Gonzalez

...Just incredible.

There's not way Bryant is better than Calvin Johnson. He'd be destroying this leauge if he had a decent QB.

Hell at least Crabtree managed to play more than a handful of games in his college career

No one is better than Larry Fitzgerald.

Of course if it's a Cowboy WR coach, that would explain it. You know opinions though, everyone has one.

I don't think it's that incredible.

Bryant was considered the best of the stud class of Big 12 receivers that year.

He's not the best of the last 10 years, and the Scout is only going by the tape, not his ability to know an offense, but if you're just going by the tape, only Calvin Johnson and Larry Fitzgerald were more dominant in the last 10 years. Maybe Peter Warrick but he was used differently. Not a classic WR.

Bryant will be good, but there's no way that he'll end up being better than Calvin Johnson (who finally has a good QB to throw him the ball) or Larry Fitzgerald. Breer, pretty clearly, has his own agenda here. Bryant was his guy and we didn't go with him. Usually I'm able to give guys in the media the benefit of the doubt but not here. He's got an axe to grind.

breer is just obsessed with the cowboys and dez bryant.

That list is an eye opener.

Look how many guys are flat out busts or soared like a rocket only to come crashing back to earth?

WR is a risky pick.

Three names....just in the past 5 - 7 years

Andre Johnson
Calvin Johnson
Larry Fitz.

Breer should work for an NFL team since he thinks hes a guru at recognizing talent.

If I was an NFL GM, I'd want to know if I employed this WR coach. And if I did, I'd fire him on the spot for being a moron.

I like Bryant a lot. But the best prospect in 10 years??? C'mon...

Breer should just go back to Dallas, where he could fellate Dez Bryant for the next 10 years. I've never seen anyone so bitter because the team he covers didn't draft his binky.

PROSPECT, he is arguably one of the best WR prospect in the last ten years IMO. At least top 5.

The bust rate when I went over this a couple weeks back was 40%.

There are other positions with high bust rates as well, like RB.

This is Breer's 'Borges moment'.

We still remember who Borges wanted us to draft instead of Seymour. ;)

I would have taken Bryant over Andre based on college performance. Both really only had great junior years, but Bryant's junior year was a lot more impressive than Andre's.

He's not the top, but he is top 3.

My question is why he didn't name the coach. Why does a WR coach need to remain anonymous when evaluating a WR prospect who has already been drafted? Seriously, these comments were off the record? I don't mind having an agenda...but at least be a grown-up about it.

It is much more likely that this comment is at best an exaggeration. Any WR coach that made that evaluation and actually meant it would bring into question his evaluation skills. Bryant may be the 2nd coming of Jerry Rice, but none of his film against top teams would lead you in that direction.

He's not the top, but he is top 3.

As I said, I really like him, and I really would have liked to have seen us draft him. But the hyperbole surrounding these draft picks has been wearing on me lately. Guess I read/watched too much draft coverage this year. (Okay okay, that's not possible). :p
