Re: Patriot Access: Inside the War Room/interview with Nick Caserio

am I just reading too much into this or does it look like they originally planned on drafting gresham at 22 from that footage?

edit: oops -- I take it back.

edit: this footage is supersweet!!

Could be but it could also have been that they wanted a TE in the second round and one going there reduced the chance of Gresham or Gronk making it to their next pick. I think it's the latter as Belichick didn't like the Bengals making the pick but it didn't look like it changed their plans.

Re: Patriot Access: Inside the War Room/interview with Nick Caserio

Order of events that I got from the video:
1) Draft Gresham ---> too late...
2) Trade back to 24 and draft McCourty
3) Dallas wants Dez and Balt/Ari don't want McCourty so lets trade
4) Draft McCourty at 27; pop smoke and GTFO

Re: Patriot Access: Inside the War Room/interview with Nick Caserio

no, at first I thought that about gresham, too, but if you watch it again you can hear somebody mumbling about trading down before belichick actually gives the order.
maybe if cincy had taken mccourty they had some other plan.

Re: Patriot Access: Inside the War Room/interview with Nick Caserio

I still think as I said in my other thread the Pats would have taken Gresham at 22 and stayed put there and McCourty would have been picked up by another before #44 but Cincy needed a TE and I think NE knew that there was a good chance Cincy was taking him but were probably hoping they took Bryant,I don't think NE thought it was necessary to move up and lose a later round pick on a TE so they took thier chances of losing Gresham to #21 and was set on getting a TE later..and they did, twice.

I doubt it, all the CB were going fast, if they wanted a CB and TE then the CB and Gronkowski was far more likely to work than Gresham and a CB later.

There was always a chance that if the Pats did take Gresham at #22 and a few picks later saw Devin still on the board and wanted McCourty, they could have given a lower 2nd or 3rd away to move back in the lower 20s and get him anyway but NE has not traded back up in the first for quite some time so there probably was a chance that would have happened but we will never know nor at this time really care.

We'll never know. Getting the CB Belichick clearly wanted then working on the #2 TE seems like a reasonable hope/plan going in. There's no way to know what was the #1 plan but I bet McCourty and Gronkowski was very close to it.

I'd be shocked if the Pats had a first round grade on a slow TE that can't block.

Re: Patriot Access: Inside the War Room/interview with Nick Caserio

I don't read into BB's reaction that they were targeting Gresham at 22.

I thought before the draft that Gronkowski was the better TE and getting Hernandez in the 4th looks like great value.

I'm glad they took McCourty at 27-especially with all the DB heavy schemes that are employed now-it's almost like you can't have enough good ones. Depending on how well he develops, I think we're going to be glad we have him. It's doubtful he would have been there in the second round.

Re: Patriot Access: Inside the War Room/interview with Nick Caserio

right before they draft mccourty at 27 belichick says something like 'they already squeezed a third out of us' --- what's he mean by that?
isn't it just the other way around?

Maybe Dallas called them again and wanted thier 27 back as well and wanted to toss another 3rd round deal at them to get the 27 back??

Re: Patriot Access: Inside the War Room/interview with Nick Caserio

I really enjoyed that. Thanks for the link.

Re: Patriot Access: Inside the War Room/interview with Nick Caserio

I didn't think they wanted Gresham, not at all.

I hate to criticize Bob Kraft because I love the guy, and I think it's great that he talks to players, but man he's sitting right next to Belichick and offering his two cents as Belichick is trying to make trades. Jeez, Bob, just sit there and be silent please.

It IS the other way around! The onscreen transcription is wrong. I just listened to it 5 times, BB actually says "we squeezed a third out of this, let's just get our guy and go."

I also see no signs they were interested in Gresham at #22, it looks like BB is just antsy that Cinci might be "doing something," i.e. making a trade that would screw up the done deal with Denver.

does kraft remind anybody of george segal on just shoot me?

ohhhh -- cool, thx.

hahaha.....I wonder if footage from other teams is that exciting, or a bunch of guys eating sandwiches waiting to submit their pick.

The Redkins probably even get in a round of golf between picks! :)

On the other hand, the Cowboys' footage was extra exciting because they let the cameras loose on their draft board -- All Access blurred that out. Seemed a bit more elaborate of a system than the Cowboy's handwritten vertical sort..
