The number that jumps out to Schiano is 110. In a 28-24 win against UConn on Oct. 31, Devin played a whopping 110 plays. He rested after he took the opening kickoff back 98 yards, then played 109 snaps on defense and special teams.

“And he made the final play, causing a fumble on a hook-and-lateral,” Schiano said. “Not many guys can do that physically. That’s the way he led this football team.”

Good article. Some of the material is recycled from prior McCourty articles, but most seems new.

McCourty sounds like a heck of a kid.

Good read. Seems to be a very high character guy with good durability and skills.

He should do fine.

To think so many stepped towards the ledge when he was picked.. He has a great character, im glad we have him on our team.

Peter King said something the other day about his desire and work ethic.. both of which are good things..

I never understood that reaction -- and I'm a guy who, like many, wasn't looking for a high-pick CB coming into the draft.

It was a natural reaction when there are a few glaring holes in our team.

I'll tell you what though, Nnamdi Asomugha would gift wrap marshall twice a year for us. Could have been had. la-de-da, i know.....

Nnamdi and his 800 million dollar contract? I love the guy but not at that price.

The article starts off by saying the Patriots drafted McCourty with the 22nd overall pick. It, of course, was the 27th overall pick. Great job!

Uncapped this year and i think he is on the hook for two more years. Could restructure with a new long term deal.

But it's never gonna happen so who cares.

Meanwhile, new class clown Breer can go off about how he was a bad pick because he isn't a pass rusher.

Everyone should read this article, win or lose this is the kind of kid we'll all enjoy rooting for. No more Adalius Thomas crap, the real Patriots will be brought back with kids like McCourty and Spikes; and I couldn't be happier about it.

Do they recycle these articles every year? It's the same type of article we read about a draft pick. I read a similar article about Butler last year and Wheatley the year before.

"(Insert Name) is a good player but an even better person"

Nice piece thanks for posting it! Lots here from Schiano, likely stuff he'd discussed with BB-no wonder we went for it.
Expectations be dammed, Schiano can’t help but say McCourty’s play reminds him of former Pittsburgh star Darrelle Revis.

“I don’t want to put that kind of pressure on him,” Schiano said. “But their styles of press coverage are similar.”
omy if this proves true...:singing:

Yeah, we tend to hear it a lot. But the line about playing 110 snaps in a game says two VERY positive things to me:

1) He's durable and in great shape, which is often a wall for rookies in their first season.

2) He can contribute in ANY situation.

Kid's a football player, through and through.

Wonder if the Herald would foot the bill to send Ian to U of F to get the scoop on our new Gators...Would be a great read.

Just a heads up, you're linking to page 3 of the article.

Someone was telling me that he was on SportsScience on ESPN? did anyone catch it?

Everything abotu this kid sounds very positive, should be fun to see how he progresses.

Yeah thats promising coming from a Giants fan.

That's the part that sums the kid up best though...

The kid sounds like he is a player, not just a star, but a player. Screw the cliche, they got a good character guy who knows what hard work can get you and respects the need to continue at it.

Did it on purpose, because that's the page I took the quote from.

If somebody can't get back to the first page from there, I'm not really interested in reading their comments about it. ;)
