I like both Mike Mayock and Mike Lombardi and think Kiper is a joke.

Thanks for NFL network as I don't watch Es$% much.

I have 2 questions. Does anyone really like Kiper and why do they have 5/6 guys doing TV at the same time? They all talk over one another.
Three is the max that should be on at the same time.

I agree, I think Mayock is really good. Seems to talk sense most of the time :)

Mayock, Lombardi, and the Bru Man!

Re: Best/Worst NFL analyst's?

Worst: That former runningback dude from the St Louis Rams - - Kevin Faulk's cousin - -he still stews about his lost luster after SB 36. Everytime he's on TV he looks like he's fighting an ulcer named Belichick (and losing) :D.

Kiper has no qualifications for his job. He never played football and was never in an NFL front office.

How is he any different than a scout or player personnel guy in that respect? There are a number of front office guys never played football beyond Pop Warner or high school level. They just watch tons and tons of film and learn about the game through scouts, coaches and books. Kiper (love him or hate him) has been scouting players, evaluating tape and talking to coaches, GMs and the like for nearly 30 years. I'd say he probably has more experience scouting players than some GMs in the business.

For what it's worth, Pioli, Caserio and Floyd Reese all played college ball. Ernie Accorsi and Mike Tannenbaum (who was a law school graduate) have no football background.

I will never understand why people think Kiper isn't good at his job. He's not an analyst in the traditional "breaking down the game" sense, and he's never pretended to be. I can see why some may not like him, but that dude knows everything about college players.

Mayock is good at what he does -- very diligent in breaking down film. He also brings the understanding of having been a player. Lombardi was a former Oakland GM and Casserly worked for the Texans. Gruden is very good (as in calling it like he sees it) when he wants to be.

Kiper's claim to fame is that he was the original entrepreneur who created the role of TV draft expert based on his prodigious ability to watch 15 to 20 college football game each weekend (on Tape). He is "mr. draft expert" -- full of ceaseless stream of words (opinions or hot air) but not particularly incisive in terms of insight or analyses. McShay is a newcomer who is ESPN's inhouse expert -- at one point handpicked to make Kiper obsolete. Fortunately for Kiper, ESPN finds his reduced price acceptable enough these days to keep him around.

Too bad Kiper isnt a NFL analyst...

Kiper is terrible.

"Guard Logan Mankins was a reach in the first round"

"Cedric Benson has all the makings of a star running back"

Kiper rated LaDainian Tomlinson third-best running back in 2001 draft, behind Deuce McAllister and Michael Bennett.

"Give the Lions credit for going away from their biggest needs to take receiver Mike Williams"

"I'll see you at his Hall of Fame induction"(commenting on WR Mike Williams)

"That’s why [they] keep picking number two every year(commenting on the Colts picking Marshall Faulk)"

"Andre Ware is going to be a great NFL quarterback"

"They could go 0-16"(commenting on the 2001 Patriots)

"J.J. Stokes is a sure thing"

Ryan Leaf's "attitude" (which had rubbed teammates and coaches the wrong way in college) would be an asset in the NFL and give him a mental advantage over Peyton Manning

The Green Bay Packers selected Matt Hasselbeck in the 6th round (187 overall). Hasselbeck had not even been invited to the scouting combine, and Kiper referred to the selection as "a waste of a pick"

"Akili Smith will be a great NFL player and would finally provide the Cincinnati Bengals with the passer they'd lacked since Boomer Esiason"

"Trent Dilfer is a franchise Quarterback, the Colts should have taken him but they just showed us yet again why they are the laughing stock of the league year in and year out."

Jamie dukes is an absolute ******* moron.

Bucky Brooks is dumb too, but at least he isn't as flagrantly ******* stupid as Dukes.

kiper doesn't know everything about college players. He's just a great bs'er. That is all most of those 'analysts' do anyways. I think if he had a normal haircut no one would pay him any attention at all.

'every time he's on in a new segment...like clockwork...no matter what the subject, he'll find a way to slip in a barb directly aimed at the Pats...check it out sometime when you have the time to kill...last summer I was watching NFLN and the conversation turned to the Colts and somebody made a reference to the Yankees as a cross comparison and Dukes comes charging into the segment like a rhino on crack going off on Tom Yawkey and the racist Red Sox...my jaw dropped through the floor so far it ended up with chopsticks stuck through the lower lip.

I like Ron Jaworski. He's far and away the best on ESPN which I'll admit isn't saying much. When he was doing the film breakdown stuff on NFL access or whatever it was called, he really showed he knows his stuff. He's not that great as a color guy but overall he's pretty solid.

Jaws has to be one of the best film breakdown artists around. I can only imagine that nfl teams would love to have him on their staff.

I also like Gruden, but wish he did not try to be so "edgy"... he tries to be a wise guy, but looks like a nice guy...

Phil Simms and Jim Nance are technically announcers, but do a good job..

Boomer Esaison, does a nice job as well..

Kiper's not an analyst and never will be. He's an application of hairspray with a touch of annoying.

FWIW, Jaws and Gruden along with Bruschi and Harrison are the four guys I enjoyed listening/reading the most in season 2009.

Agree. It's amazing that if somebody didn't play football, but is successful doing somthing related to the NFL, folks hate on him. I think he is good. I also like Mayock and Lomardi. Faulk BLOWS though. He's hard to watch.

What are you talking about? Kiper's father was a brilliant draft analyst! What more qualifications do you need. :D

Kiper is the poster child on why nepotism in the workplace is a bad thing.
