Started reading up on this kid after seeing the video clip in Breers recent blog post about how Brandon was shot by a car thief before the first game of the 2009 season and was back at practice days later and ended up playing on in that weeks game. (!)

Here is the Breer post with the clip:

Then I started searching Twitter for mentions and saw this pretty good pre-draft article:

One scout high on UA's Deaderick | TideSports.com

Sounds like he is a solid 5 technique guy who might have gone higher were it not for getting shot then having shoulder surgery after the championship game. That caused him to miss the senior bowl, the combine and alabamas pro day.

Got a good feeling that he might be one of those late DL who pans out for us a la Pryor. And with the current DL hole on the roster, this kid couldn't ask for a better opportunity.

Certainly sounds like a worthwhile flyer to have taken.

I think Larsen will make the squad as backup C too. 5th round punter. Could have 8-9 rookies make the squad. 8 from last year's draft; Vollmer, Butler, Chung, Brace, Pryor, Edelman. Hopefully, Tate and McKenzie are healthy. I think they make the squad if they are. Rebuilding project is underway. A couple of cherries on top next year. Maybe, a wr and de.

I also think that Deaderick and Larsen will make the roster, especially Deaderick.

He's a high character kid, who loves football..

Tough and humble..

This is the "anti-dezbryant" type..

Good sleeper pick.

Great find on this info. Player could be quite the find too!

Does that mean Connolly is gone? No way BB has three centers on roster.

I expect Ohrnberger and Larsen to edge Connolly out.

Ohrnberger is already on the roster as the 3rd guard. Either Larsen will edge out Connolly or Koppen gets cut.

Totally agree. I think he makes the roster and pushes for playing time as a rookie. I'm surprised the Pats waited that long to draft him. I even picked him in the contest as 1 of my 12 picks. Besides being a prototypical 2-gap DE, there's this in the CBSSports profile. That's one tough dude:

"Was arrested on July 14, 2007 and charged with giving a false name to police, resisting arrest, and criminal mischief (for cracking the window inside a patrol car with his head). Was shot in 2009 by a would-be car thief. Deaderick confronted the thief and was shot once. The bullet went through his arm, through his hip and out of an area near his groin. Showing his toughness, Deaderick suited up and played against Virginia Tech less than five days later"
