was hoping he would come back and see what he could do in a full offseason, but with Warren signed, that throws it out the books...

How do you figure? Warren is a 3-4 DE for the Pats.. Burgess is a pass-rushing nickle specialist?

Completely unrelated......

Burgess is a nickel/dime DE passrusher.... he 260 lbs

Warren is a 3-4 DE, way over 300 lbs. If he makes the team, he'll play 1st and 2nd down, and if he plays on 3rd down, move to DT just like Seymour did.

guess you missed the "Patriots will make decision on Burgess within a week" thread started last month. Forget who threw that one out there.

Should have been signed by now... Lewis and Warren signing, could .. And I say COULD... Signal the end of the short lived Burgess era...

Even assuming Warren makes the final roster, depth at DE/OLB is still a need. I don't think you can say it is over yet.

Is Burgess under contract?

Is Burgess under contract?

I don't know, but if he's gained 50 pounds, I don't want him.

Oh, sorry. He's a FA, but he could still sign.

[Not as a 3-4 lineman was my point.....]

We hardly knew him.

That 3rd and 5th rounder would have come in mighty handy this weekend

You mean the ones they just replaced thanks to moving back in the 1st round and again in the 2nd round?

Sure looked like they missed them...for all of three hours! :D

I know BB wheeled and dealed them back but that could have been another 3rd pushed to a 2nd in 2011!! 2 1st and 3 2nds!!

If anything crable being healthy(fingers & toes crossed) and the cunningham pick would signal the end of the burgess era....

Maybe...or maybe they make other trades that don't net them a 2nd next year instead net them lower picks...either way his cost was nullified.

Sorry he didn't work out, but not so sorry to see him go.

I'd like to see Burgess re-sign.

I'd like to see Burgess re-sign.

So would I. He's a reasonably talented guy who has experience in the system. The fact that his play improved late in the season gives me hope that he hadn't had a full grasp of the system until our last 6 games or so.

If he plays like he did the last 6 games- yes.

If he plays like the first 10- no way in hell.
Let's assume there's a learning curve, or so I've always heard about NE's defense.

Nothing to lose.
I actually thought his best role would have been an INSIDE rusher in the nickel/dime. I'm pretty sure he did that in Philly, sliding into DT on passing downs.
