puts up similar or better numbers than last year (800+ yards and 9 rushing TDs), and leaves as a FA, would he be anymore of a bust than Watson? I really don't think so. Thoughts?

Re: If Maroney......

I'd call him a big disappointment probably, but not a bust.

I think bust is too strong of a word. He certainly didn't come anywhere near expectations, but he certainly wasn't a complete bust. He had a very average contribution.

kind of like Watson.............

Re: If Maroney......

If LoMo gets 800 yds he'll pass John Stephens for 7th on the all-time Pats rushing yardage list. Stephens was a 1st rounder as well.

I think of Stephens' career as a Pat as an ok one. Should have been better, but because he was a first rounder it was a disappointment because expectations were higher.

Same with LoMo.

Re: If Maroney......

Maroney being AWFUL is wildly overblown, especially here. Last year, for instance, as vexing as his fumble-itis was, the other aspect of the criticism - the "dancing" - had WAY more to do with a terribly inconsistent O-line. Belichick said so all year - and he said so the last three days, too. Through his actions.

Re: If Maroney......

Not a bust but like others have said he certainly didn't come close to expectations.

Re: If Maroney......

Better question would have been

If Maroney...... Was drafted as a Jet is he a bust

It's not a bad question, since Maroney gets more hate than Watson. I don't think either turned out to be busts. They just didn't live up to expectations of greatness we hoped.

Re: If Maroney......

I'd say not a bust but not living up to first round draft pick expectations.

Based on last season, I'm fine with Maroney as a lead back for next year. He had a little fumblitis, but he was great in the red zone and ran much more decisively that he did in the previous year.

I think he was also unfairly labelled as soft when he ran out of bounds against the 49ers (2 years ago??) when he was hurt. His speed/power/size ratio is still awesome. That run when he blew up Kerry Rhodes is classic. I love me some LoMo for 2010.

Re: If Maroney......

I voted no, but I really didn't want to vote either. He hasn't lived up to expectations but has been a semi reliable source as a RB. He definitley isn't the long term answer and I don't care too much for his running style. I think he has/had the potential to be a decent player but things havn't turned out that way. I am giving him credit because he is a Patriot and on our side.

Re: If Maroney......

Anybody who goes into all seasons but his rookie year as the penciled starter is not a bust.

He didn't meet most of our expectations and may not have been worth the first rounder, this much is true. But definitely not a bust.

Re: If Maroney......

I wouldn't call him a bust but he certainly hasn't done what was expected. He still has time to turn it around but I don't expect much more than his 800 yard 9 td type seasons.

Both had potential with speed and agility coming out of college, but never lived up to expectations as a first round pick is the way I would put it.

Addai and Maroney have had similar careers while Maurice Jones Drew is an All-Pro who the Pats and Colts both passed up on which is surprising since both teams are top of the line when it comes to evaluating talent :(

Re: If Maroney......

The prevalent thought in this thread seems to be "didn't meet expectations".

Whose expectations would those be?

It's fairly apparent from the teams actions so far, that they are perfectly happy with the RB production.

Re: If Maroney......

You can find quality RBs everywhere, they're a dime a dozen. When you pick one in the first round he better give you elite production for at least 5 years. Maroney hasn't come anywhere close to that yet, thus qualifying as a bust in my eyes.

Re: If Maroney......

We really need more fascinating polls and threads like this. I'm surprised such an excellent idea took this long to come to fruition.

Re: If Maroney......

I have no problem with being obsessed with busts but....

Not sure if absolutes work with Maroney, he is not a bust and he is not the greatest of all time.. somewhere in the netherworld of stardom/bust he exists..
