He benched Maroney after a couple carries in the playoffs.
He seemed down on Maroney at the end of last season because of the
goal line fumbles.

Faulk, Morris & Taylor are good, but old & Morris and Taylor will probably get
hurt as usual.

BJGE is inactive most weeks.

No running backs drafted.... & no UDFA RB's yet.

Are we set at RB??

Will there be another trade?

As of right now, the unit is functional. I think they will bring in someone that is better than BJGE to compete.

I think that Belichick looked at the running game last year and saw where the issues were.. Not with the RBs, but with the inconsistency of the o-line. And he'd was amazed, like many others, that despite the inconsistency, the Pats ran the ball pretty well except in short yardage situations.

I think that with Vollmer starting at RT, Crumpler and Gronkowski, he feels that the team has improved in that aspect. Not to mention the addition of Ted Larson, who I think will be at OG spelling Neal.

We made a huge mistake not picking up Toby Gerhart. Could have a Heisman candidate, but instead we pick an unknown cornerback from Rutgers?

I wouldn't mind marshawn lynch he runs hard and he is a year wiser hopefully in regards to his off the field shortcomings

Spot on.

10 chars.

Brady is healthy.

We have three tight ends.

Vollmer will start and improve the OL.

We now have TWO wide receivers to stretch the field in Moss and Holt.

We have four solid running backs.

Our running game should be improved over 2009.

Did the OL fumble the ball on the goal line multiple times???

Faulk, Morris and Taylor seemed to be able to run behind the line
when healthy. Maroney never seems to be able to find the hole.

I don't think Maroney could find the hole behind Hannah & Gray.

Where do you get that McCourty was an "unknown cornback from Rutgers?" YOU might not have known about him. Anyone who actually was following the run up to the draft knew who he was and knew he was one of the top 5, possibly top 3 corners.

2011.

BB has been planning on it for two years. He has the picks and the leverage and the money to get a great one early in the first round. He has a FB already on the roster that will be available to use in 2011. He doesn't have to take a throw away RB who has no shot at making the roster this year when he had other positions that needed work before RB.

If we are having this discussion in a year then we should be worried

I expect a RB to be added via FA.

I doubt all three of Morris, Taylor, and BJGE are on the team next year.

Go back and WATCH the games. Go back and listen to Belichick take the O-line to task for it's inconsistent blocking. It's amazing how people like yourself don't bother to listen to what the COACH says. You just delude yourselves into thinking you're smarter than he is.

Your BS about Maroney not finding a hole if Hannah and Gray were there is just that. BS. And pure, unfounded speculation.

Morris - Fumbled in a critical 4th and 2 short yardage situation.
Taylor - Fumbled in a critical short-yardage situation.

Maroney seems to find the hole just fine when given the same opportunities to run the draw plays that Taylor, Morris and Faulk were given. But people like you ignore that.

So I guess that BB Benched Taylor and Morris in that play-off game as well.. Since they had 1 and 2 carries respectively. OR maybe the Pats were just getting their arses handed to them so badly that the ground game became secondary..

BB is always down when a player fumbles. That's why it upset him that Morris and Taylor fumbled in critical situations as well.

BB does give players the chance to redeem themselves.. Maroney is still young and he's got the skill..

I like you as a poster Bruinz, but you seem to take a nutty every post defending Maroney.

Let's put it this way. Look at the 2nd round RBs over the past few years. Most of them have started and produced day 1. If we need a RB next year we can assume the same thing with confidence. Finding a RB is one of the easier things to do in the NFL

Excellent point. Why draft at a position of need when you can take an unnecessary running back and placate a bunch of complainers on Patsfans.com?

That's going to keep Belichick all night, I'm sure.

Rumor is that BB was about to call Toby, but at the very last moment he had flashbacks of Tommy Vardell and decided that a top CB was a better selection.

Excellent point, why draft a RB whose running style doesn't fit your blocking scheme?

I guess it must be an awful shocker to people that Minnesota got both of the big thumper RBs with Blount signing as a UDFA?

Back to NE - teams will be reshuffling their roster over the next couple months, I expect a couple veteran RBs will be in camp to compete with Maroney & Co.

That wouldn't surprise me.

my biggest problem with the running game is not how many att the team has or how many yerds or even who is running the ball.

my problem is they can't run the ball when they need to they can't get 1 or 2 yerds on 3rd or 4th and short. and can't run they clock out when they have a lead in the 4th.
