OT: Jets cut Faneca

Warren/Wilfork/Henderson would make for a slow front in the 3-4. That would put this team at risk against wide runs.

I don't think Seymour can really be classified as a speed demon. The OLBs should be able to set the edge against wide runs.

I hear you, but the bolded part has been the problem on sweeps.

Yeah. TBC is a liability against the run. From what I saw at Florida, Cunningham was an expert at tracking down those wide sweeps. Let's hope that either TBC gets better or whoever we have starting on the other side of the defense (Crable) is good at tracking down wide runs.

Faneca has confirmed to Lombardi that he will be released Monday.

Re: Jets cut Faneca

Faneca is 33 years-old and is the opposite direction the Pats need to go in terms of age and speed anywhere on the field. The Pats O-line has plenty of veteran leadership. Look for a nasty like Sebastian Vollmer to be picked from some obscure conference today.

The Jets are getting nastier and have some guys who may be solid leaders with the injection of Taylor, Tomlinson and Cromartie. The AFC East may become the toughest in football althoughth the Bills will continue their suckage. The Bills should move to Toronto and let some billionaire from China spend to build a dome and a team.

Did you seriously just call Taylor, Tomlinson and Cromartie leaders? Those are possibly the 3 most selfish players in the NFL.

Re: Jets cut Faneca

So the Jets lost 2 very good players/leaders who are apparently great locker room guys, and were very productive last year and replace them with a bunch of guys who were the opposite and no one in the media sees this as a potential problem.
If the Pats had drafted Ducasse then cut logan Mankins, our resident screamers would be saying it is another example of how the Patriots suck and can't keep players and are losing ground in the AFCE.

Jets do the same, and these particular Pats fans see nothing wrong with it.

Well, all those who scoffed at our re-signing Bodden, wilfork, Neal, etc etc by saying it is a given that you keep your own good players, how do you feel about the jets now?

Washington gone. Replaced with rookie
Faneca gone. replaced with rookie.

I am extremely happy Washington is out of here.

Also glad to see Thomas Jones gone.

Let's see if the Jets beat out teh Bills to stay out of the cellar.

Re: Jets cut Faneca

The JETS are seemingly creating a volitile dynamic in that locker room based on the belief that Rex wil be the team's leader. No matter how much players may like a plucky HC, they seldom can control behavior the way peer leadership can. There has been a little undercurrent developing as it did when Eric took over and generally does when a new sheriff comes to town and cuts existing leadership to replace it with his deputies. Thing is the guys he's adding this season aren't even his deputies, more like some other HC's problematic inmates. As other guys on the roster see the writing on the wall, guys like Jenkins and Woody who know they'll be next as early as 2011, resentment will begin to fester. And they will be less inclined to intervene or have Rex's back if other situations begin to cause problems...

As for Faneca, I imagine he still believes he's a starter and he will want to start somewhere. Not sure how things ended with him in Pittsburgh, but if he was a good leader beyond the contract demands they might want to revisit him returning to an OL that has struggled and will be fronting a backup to open the season and then a QB under fire...

THe stength of the Jets supposedly was their OL and running game. They lose their best OL and RB and Washington now too. They add an over the hill RB, and a troubled, suspended WR with no one to throw to him.
They replace their poor starting corner with another poor starting corner.

So far, as far as I can see, they hurt their running game (rumor is the UMass 330 lb T is the new LG) they added a nickel corner, and they now are going to have to rely on their not yet deveolped QB to get the ball to their only weapon (unless we are now calling 35 catch Edwards a real weapon) after his suspension is over.
THEN, rumor is they are losing their best DL (at least of those that arent injured or out of shape) and a starting OLB also.
Wasn't their talk about how much the Jets imporved a few days ago? Newsflash, they have REGRESSED.

Thats not true,at least for Cromartie

He IS a leader........

That is,of producing the most children in such a small amount of time

Re: Jets cut Faneca

You doubt Crumpler and Holt will make our roster? Really?

Yeah, I do. Alge Crumpler is slowing down and has problems keeping off the weight. Why was he available at all? The Pats now have two top-75 rookies at tight end (Scouts, Inc.) and there will be more free agents/walk-ons this week. Crumpler was just an insurance policy before the draft.

Holt is a similar situation. If Price works out and Tate is healthy, there's not much room for a smallish geezer WR. At best, he plays until Wes gets back in week 7.

That's a terrible argument on your part. Mankins is still in his prime and is not particularly highly paid at the moment. Faneca is on the back 9 and had a high salary.

I think the Jets are making a mistake, but your comparison is terrible.

Faneca gone. replaced with rookie.

Another terrible comparison. The Patriots kept the people they wanted. The Jets kept the people they wanted. The difference is that the Jets were active in getting arguably elite players from elsewhere. Whether you like the moves or not, again, your comparison is not apt.

Jones
Washington
Faneca
Thomas
Ellis

Those are 5 of the best players on the Jets last season.
Lets not buy into the revisionist history that now they are gone they were never good. Faneca was their best run blocker, and the reason Ferguson didn't get owned as he did before. Throwing a small school rookie T in the place of their best OL is a huge downgrade.

Holt has A LOT left. His production was fine with the Rams, even on a poor team with QB issues, and the only reason it was down last year was because he was in a terrible passing offense.
Look at his #s compared to Holmes.
Given the suspension, and given the QBs, I'd be willing to bet even money that Holt outproduces Holmes this year.

===============================================

You post all this like it is fact, it's just your opinion.

Faneca was the weak link on the Jets Oline, not close to there best run blocker.

Ellis and Thomas are still Jets. Washington had a mediocre season before getting hurt in game 6, he missed 13 games, hardly one of the top 5 best Jets last season.

You gotta be kidding me. Torry Holt had the worst year of his career last year - Zero TDs, fewest yards, fewest catches, fewest games. Over the hill. What about his stats suggests anything but further decline?

See: Torry Holt

i'll take that bet. the jacksonville jaguars, who have no WRs, thought it was better to let this guy go instead of giving him 1 million and a roster spot. yet because he's on NE, he's better than a superbowl mvp. nope, you're not a homer...

Didnt say he was better, said that Holt, who caught 51 passes from Garrard will catch more in 16 games from Brady than Holmes who caught 75 from R-berger will catch in 12 with Sanchez.

See: Torry Holt

The decline in stats was due to the team and QB. He isnt that old. He is a great fit in a Brady led offense.
