Everson Griffin targeted by Patriots

probably denied by the same guys that spread that BB was high on tebow and could see him as a 1st round pick (turned out to be true... just not for us)

At this point I have to believe that they are high trading back if he drops to them in the 4'th. They have had abundant opportunities to draft him and did not.

I have to believe that the Patriots would go Ricky Sapp at this point or some other direction totally.

But they've had abundant opportunities to take Sapp.

I'd rather go value on Griffen than take the bust that is Sapp.

Well, he has local connections. He was arrested on Nantucket. (for being too loud- gimme a break).

Wonder if it was BB who called the cops? ;)

I can only imagine that Ricky Sapps knee is scaring of a lot of teams.

I really liked the kid. Thought he would have been gone a long time ago. However, I do think that you are right. It must be a major concern.

Now PFT is saying that the Pats claim they did not call...

Pats claim they didn't call Everson Griffin | ProFootballTalk.com

Last night, before the Patriots traded down (again) in the draft, Jason La Canfora of NLFN reported that the team had called USC defensive end Everson Griffin, and that they had told him he'd be the pick.

The Patriots claim that they did no such thing. According to Ian Rapoport of the Boston Herald, a spokesman said bluntly, "It did not happen."

All due respect, we don't believe them. With eight Pats picks left and plenty of ammo to move up from their next selection -- No. 113 -- the Patriots surely want no one else who covets Griffin to spring up and get him before they can.

I hope there denying denying it so teams won't steal him. He would be a steal talent wise.

Or maybe LaCanfora was told by the guys who spread the Tebow rumour that the Pats were on the phone?

If you read the tweets from the Pats twitter account, they obviously had a trade in mind well before they were on the clock.

Who cares anyway, the guy is junk.

And just how do you know that Sapp is a bust?? OH WAIT. YOU DON'T. :bricks:

Thanks for the "insight"

As they said there - his own coaches were questioning him, and he wasn't a three down player. Why would the Pats take anyone like that?

As I've always said, you need to be an impact player on as many downs as possible.

We are talking, if the rumors are true, a late third round pick. You don't have the expectations of getting an every down player late in the first round. If you can get a solid to great pass rush specialist late in the third, he is an outstanding pick. That said, it doesn't mean Griffen is that guy.

With a late third and all the selections the Pats have, they could have afford to take a two down player or a player who is a project. Look at Taylor Price. He is a bit of a project who may only only be a #3 WR at best.

If you are drafted late in the third, you have a fair amount of question marks about you. Otherwise, you would have been drafted already.
