Re: Jets cut Faneca

Not good at all. He's a good run blocker but we don't have room for him here with Mankins (who should sign the tender sometime soon) and Neal on the roster. No thanks.

And Neal is going to play his customary 16 games ?

Re: Jets cut Faneca

I think Rooney should take him back for one more year and have him retire as a Steeler.

He is one of the best OL of this era....it would be the right way to end his career where he became a force.

He played in all 16 games in 2007 and only missed the first part of 2008 because of the broken leg he suffered in the Super Bowl. Otherwise you're looking at another full season. He did have some issues in 2009 though. As for a back-up, I agree we need someone behind him more capable than Connolly. But that could and probably should be filled when teams make their initial cuts this offseason. A player like that will come much cheaper than Faneca.

Re: Jets cut Faneca

No interest. But agree with posters above that we need dept, but not with the money that Faneca is going to want. And I think our current lineup is good for another season or two.

Re: Jets cut Faneca

So the Jets lost 2 very good players/leaders who are apparently great locker room guys, and were very productive last year and replace them with a bunch of guys who were the opposite and no one in the media sees this as a potential problem. Wood be an upset if he doesn't end up with Pitt.

Strange move IMO. Was he injured or something?

Faneca is 33 years-old and is the opposite direction the Pats need to go in terms of age and speed anywhere on the field. The Pats O-line has plenty of veteran leadership. Look for a nasty like Sebastian Vollmer to be picked from some obscure conference today.

The Jets are getting nastier and have some guys who may be solid leaders with the injection of Taylor, Tomlinson and Cromartie. The AFC East may become the toughest in football althoughth the Bills will continue their suckage. The Bills should move to Toronto and let some billionaire from China spend to build a dome and a team.

Tomlinson does not belong in the same sentence as "solid leader."

Re: Jets cut Faneca

I thought the same. And the baby daddy with 8 child support cases? The guy does not even have a brian.

The JETS are seemingly creating a volitile dynamic in that locker room based on the belief that Rex wil be the team's leader. No matter how much players may like a plucky HC, they seldom can control behavior the way peer leadership can. There has been a little undercurrent developing as it did when Eric took over and generally does when a new sheriff comes to town and cuts existing leadership to replace it with his deputies. Thing is the guys he's adding this season aren't even his deputies, more like some other HC's problematic inmates. As other guys on the roster see the writing on the wall, guys like Jenkins and Woody who know they'll be next as early as 2011, resentment will begin to fester. And they will be less inclined to intervene or have Rex's back if other situations begin to cause problems...

As for Faneca, I imagine he still believes he's a starter and he will want to start somewhere. Not sure how things ended with him in Pittsburgh, but if he was a good leader beyond the contract demands they might want to revisit him returning to an OL that has struggled and will be fronting a backup to open the season and then a QB under fire...

You guys are right about Tomlinson and his leadership skills. I wasn't thinking about him as the Jets' parish priest. Oops, another bad example.

Tomlinson, Taylor and Cromartie do bring successful football experience to a Jets team that doesn't have leadership at the QB position and lots of tough young guys who need that type of veteran around to help take the next step in an improving AFC East. The Pats and Dolphins seem to be getting faster, younger and tougher with their off-season moves, the draft and return of injured players from 2009. (That is said notwithstanding Crumpler and Holt who I doubt make the Pats roster.)

You doubt Crumpler and Holt will make our roster? Really?

Re: Jets cut Faneca

Dumb move. He was a key cog in their running game. And since there's no salary cap this year, why not pay the extra money? Clearly, this is the year the Jets are going all in. Next year, they're going to lose some more veterans and FAs.

I think this is a stupid move by the Jets. Yes, he is old, expensive, and declining; but they don't save enough money, I think he covers for Ferguson's flaws, and he is still a good guard. They look to be replacing him with a rookie who is projected to be a project and not ready to contribute (not all of these o-linemen projects turn out like Vollmer did). Considering the Jets' offense lives and dies with their line, this could be a huge risk especially after getting rid of their 1,400 yard RB and replacing him with a second year player who has yet to prove he can carry the load for 16 games and a washed up Tomlinson.

I hope we sign Henderson so I can sit back and watch him demolish D'Bust Week 2.

Warren/Wilfork/Henderson would make for a slow front in the 3-4. That would put this team at risk against wide runs.
