Day two was much better than day one, but the Pat's still don't have anyone anyone who can rush the passer. This fact makes me hate that first round pick (like the player, but not the pick/position) even more.

If I were the Pat's I would be doing my best to move one of their picks (not the first rounders) for an impact pass rusher.

Any thoughts?

My thought is only 2 rookies out of 300+ actually rush the passer well from the OLB position. The pash rush needs to come from Crable or someone else needs to step up, Cunningham is the developmental OLB.

For the most part, pass rush comes from scheme not individual talent. (Contrary to popular belief) That is why the best pass rushing teams usually have numerous players contributing to the sack totals and the team with 'great sack guys' don't do so well as a team.

My opinion is that we have assembled players we can put on the field that have pass rush skills (Warren, Wright, TBC, Crable, Cunningham, Ninkovich, etc) and improved coverage as well as the overall play of the defense to put us in more situations where we can scheme pressure instead of being in 2nd and 6 and 3rd and 3 with a secondary that cant cover.

Cunningham wasn't bad at getting into the backfield when he was at Florida. This is a very underrated pick, IMO.

I agree. Look at the 2005 Ravens defensive philosophy/playbook, it's online. One of the key pages about pass rush says it's all about switching things up, bringing pressure from different angles, bringing confusion. It even mentions pretending to blitz pre-snap and then dropping back. We haven't done any of those things in a long time. We may have blitzed a lot statistically, but never in a confusing way which is why even bad QB's were able to pick us apart before.

Besides, I think Adalius is going to have a huge year this year after sliding back to his natural position at outside linebacker, and with Belichick as the coordinator.

What team is Adalius going to have a big year for? The Alouettes?
He has worn out his welcome and his skills have deteriorated.

scheme can manufacture pass rush, but players make plays. lets hope the next Lawrence Taylor comes out next year and we have the #2 pick. thats all ill say

I just looked at the roster. We certainly have room for one front seven guy or two.

Nope...my $ says he plays for the New England Patriots

yes and no. Yes, he wore out his welcome. But it may be in both sides best interest if they make amens. His skills have not deteriorated. Probably still one of the best athletes out of all the LB's (including from today).

The worst tackling linebacker in the NFL still one of the best athletes out there?

Which team were you watching in 2009?

Sometimes it looked like Adalius was a greeter waving to running backs as they passed him on the way to large gains.

I agree, I wanted the Pats to pick him. He has the size and had decent production, and also is from a school the BB likes. I think he will exceed expectations

The whole issue started because he was benched from rushing the QB becuase he was doing a terrible job. Thats a fact backed up by the film in addition to him saying it himself.
The worst part is he acted like being told he was doing a bad job was the messnegers failing.

You said so yourself scheme is a huge part of pass rushing.

That's not exactly like but kind of like a messenger telling Seymour he was to blame for low sack totals.

The Pats NEED to do whatever it takes to get Everson Griffen tomorrow

This guy is an absolute STEAL in the 4th round...he should have been gone by late second

The whole 'connection' thing doesnt guarantee that the pick is any good, but it should alleviate any worries about personality, character, effort or coachability. Thats a big advantage, since those 4 areas are the reason(s) for 90% of the draft busts.

Ricky Sapp, Anthony Dixon RB, Dwyer RB

Anthony Dixon runs hard...1st team all SEC, ahead of Ingram.

Not the fastest but a very tough player.

Good catching out of the backfield also.

We could use a good center too, but I don't think there are any good ones.

You're half right and half wrong. The best pass rush comes from scheme AND individual talent. Have our schemes changed much over the last seven years? No. Has the individual talent changed much? Yes (minus Seymour, Willie, Vrabel, Colvin...). Our front seven has well underperformed those of the Super Bowl years in regards to getting after the quarterback, and it's because of the talent drain.
