I've seen every UF football game for the last eight years.
Brandon Spikes is my Gator defensive player ever. If he comes close to replicating what he was at Florida, Pats fans will love him.
For speed purposes, they may want to keep him at his current weight. The 40 time is high but the kid can flat-out play. Hes nasty too. He had an eye-gouging issue last year vs I forget who...
had a bad groin pull last year.......Kiper neglected to mention this..........4 int returns for TD lat 2 yrs.
Good perspective. When watching Gator games on tv he ALWAYS seemed around the ball.
And that's just it. He's got superlative defensive instincts. By the time most 4.55 MLBs figure out where the play is headed, Spikes has taken two steps towards the hole.
I have had and still have questions about his motor. His junior year was his finest year and he seemed to take a step back last season in his senior year. Like everyoone else, I also have questions about his speed. However, the guy is one of the meanest and most nasty linebackers I have seen in some time. He is probably the best compliment to Mayo in this draft. If we can improve his motor, I love this pick. This is a solid draft so far.
Success at UF hasn't really translated in the pros for the most part. That eye-gouging incident was ugly.
As for the eye-gouging incident, would your opinion of Spikes change any if I told you that the Georgia player had spit on Spikes two plays earlier?
Tremendous pick for the Patriots. The team now has the potential to go from woefully understaffed at ILB to being almost too deep. The battle between McKenzie and Spikes for first (and some second) down snaps should be fun to watch, and Guyton can focus on being a pass defending 3rd down type of linebacker.
Here's hoping these guys can all stay healthy!
