19. NEW ENGLAND -- I think it's been a while since I talked to a player on the night of the draft who was happier than Devin McCourty. The Rutgers cornerback was euphoric to be picked by New England. When he heard Bill Belichick ask him last night, "Are you ready to be a New England Patriot?'' he could barely contain himself. "I was too excited,'' he said. "Those are the greatest words I've ever heard in my life.'' The Pats got a guy who scouts think can play in the slot or outside, plus one of the best special-teamers in the draft.
20. NEW ORLEANS -- I think New Orleans really wanted McCourty and settled for Patrick Robinson, the Florida State corner. I thought once McCourty was gone they'd jump for TCU defensive end Daryl Washington, a Joe Vitt favorite. But taking the corner tells me they don't feel as good about their corner situation, and still may move Malcolm Jenkins to safety.

2010 NFL Draft has Sergio Kindle, Jimmy Clausen still available - Peter King - SI.com

Let's please put to rest any thought that the Pats drafted McCourty anywhere other than the range in which his general draft grade fell.

As for the excitement about going to the Pats -- I'm glad to hear it, but where does that come from? Just how connected is BB to Rutgers? His son goes there, so it's possible he's been around campus a lot ...

Darryl Washington a DE?

Huh?

Damn, no word on whether or not McCourty likes mocha latte's? Dang, that's about all King is good for too.

That'll probably be in his next column...

I think the Jets really wanted McCouty as well as New Orleans.

Just like the colts wanted Maroney....sorry I had to

Heard the Saints wanted him also...

Well, considering we'll also be playing against Marshall and Holmes each twice a year, having a good CB who is familiar with the system can't hurt.

you Patriot homers are idiots. the Jets did NOT want McCourty and they could not believe he was available. they wanted to take an OL but had Wilson very high on their list and could not believe he was available there and had to jump on it... the only people who rate McCourty high is you Pats fans and Belicheat. Wilson right now is clearly the better prospect and best punt returner in the nation

While you are looking into the crystal ball, can you tll me some good stock selections to make that will net a high return over the next couple years?

And you know Vernon Gholston might turn into the next LT (that's the original with a last name of Taylor:)

Seems like you need to get educated. Your facts are completely wrong.

There was a lot of talk of teams fawning over McCourty in the week leading up to the draft. I didn't hear the Jets were interested in him, but I read that the Vikings, Saints, Texans and Titans had him on their lists. Interest in Wilson seemed to fade in contrast, for reasons I can't understand because he looked really good at the senior bowl.

At this point, we'll have to see who does the best with their corner when the seasons roll by. If I was a coach on the Patriots, I would give McCourty hours of game tap of Sanchez, Holmes, Cotchery and Edwards and tell him to watch it, learn it and stop it on the field.

Your argument is with Peter King - you need to convince him that his sources are wrong.

Beyond that I can only imagine the pathetic troll rant you'd have gone on if the Patriots picked Tom Brady in the 1st round of the 2000 draft.
