we got our "missing" 3rd rounder back!

Unlike many I like the McCourty pick, there are now zero good corners left on the board & plenty of good WR's, TE's, OLB's & DE's for us in round 2.

Our trades actually netted us +52 point value on the draft chart which = a 4th round pick (#121).

I love the way BB works the draft board he traded back extracting extra value till he got just in front of all the teams who were looking for CB's.

Compare his style to Jacksonville, they took a guy at 10 they could of had in the late 20's ( still a reach ) & their GM said "nobody called us about trading down." yet the next 3 picks in a row were all trades :bricks:

Someone needs to inform their GM phones can dial out as well as receive.

I am not unhappy either. Everyone is acting like this draft is over, it's just begun. This league has gone pass happy and when we can put 6/7/8 fast/young,talented d/b's on the field and that is a huge advantage. McCourtey, Butler, Bodden. Meriweather, Chung, Sanders, McGowan. Wilhite and/or Wheatley now strictly dime/sub package players.

As far as Dez Bryant, 27 teams including us, passed. Maybe everyone is wrong, we'll see. There are some big/fast/talented receivers left. Calton Mitchell, Benn, Marcus Williams.

Pass rushers: We'll see who we end up with. Three seconds, a third and a lower 4th, we'll be controlling the action tonite.

Golden Tate too... yeah, deep WR draft. Good DE/OLB prospects still left.

I've got a little secret - I understand the "invisible" special teams pickup value. You don't pick up a 1st rounder JUST for special teams, or at least you shouldn't. But getting the best STer in the draft if you think he's got promise at his position too is defensible.

That's one reason I still think Kindle is going to end up in a Pats uniform, just way lower. It ain't sexy but that seems to be the unifying logic at work behind many of the Pats' picks in the past few years.

This is just like last year for me, I wanted Butler with our #1 and we got him after trading down twice. This year when #22 came up, I wanted McCourty and we got him after trading down twice. #90 will be a GOOD pick when it comes up, it could be Moecki or Te'O Nesheim. I am one HAPPY Patriots fan.

I'm fine with the pick, but it puts more of a premium on filling needs today. I see 5 needs and 4 picks, so hopefully we fill at least 3 of them: OLB, DE, TE, WR, RB.

If "best player available" doesn't fill a need for more than one of these picks, I will be a bit worried. The good news is that I see someone at each of the 5 needs who realistically will be there for our 2a.

I wanted BPA last night because we have three #2s. It gave us the chance to get a guy we really liked knowing we still have 3 picks from the second round buffet. It's all good, I'd love a pass rusher and a WR. Then for 2c and 3 I could be talked into a WR, RB or more pass rushing. There's a TON out there still.

I think that's a fair assesment. Having stockpiled 2nds in a very deep draft, BB had the luxury of using #22 to build on strengths, rather than patch holes. And I see multiple players left at all 5 of the positions you listed who are better than the best remaining corner, so from that perspective it's canny draft management.

If we can walk out of this draft with something like McCourty, Dunlap, Moeaki, Gilyard, Te'O-Nesheim, Easley, Lonyae Miller & Deji Karim -- not impossible, IMO -- well, wow. (Though beware, I have a Jon Asamoah feeling coming in round 2...)

I'm not feeling a RB, they're kind of plug and play, although the current group will likely all be gone in 12 months I think Belichick will wait until next offseason to get a new RB or 3 unless a great value is sitting there. Maroney, Morris, Taylor, Faulk will get us through 2010.

At first, I was looking for my pitchfork, but the argument that there are plenty of potential answers at WR, OLB, etc. left and none at CB has calmed me a lot.

Makes sense, but I hope there's a bowling ball RB sitting there in the late second that's too good for BB to pass up. We definitely could use another good skill-position player on offense. Having a dominent running game would make us very hard to defend, and you wouldn't have to worry about Brady not having to have a pro bowler at every WR position

The point system might be BS but most teams use it. Getting that 3rd is huge for us cause it will let us maneuver in the 2nd much more easily.

If we just want to drop 3 or 4 spots in the 2nd for example we can swap 3rds moving up 10+ spots in the 3rd etc.

Even though I don't feel like we really need another CB that badly, and I was pretty annoyed at first, you're statement makes sense. We went with the BPA- according to BB- at a position with a big drop off thereafter. We picked up a little more ammo and hopefully tonight we address at least 3 out of the 4 positions you mentioned above.

Also, If I was Wheatley, I might consider at least packing a suitcase or two this afternoon.

Actually, Jacksonville's GM may be telling the truth. Last year SF took Michael Crabtree at #10, he held out for more money and his eventual contract is reported to have been really strange creating a messy baseline for negotiating this year's contract.

In addition to getting a Third, BB also moved NE's Fourth up six slots, increasing it's trade value. It was a fun first day.

I dont know. Not being negative, but is McCorty really the guy we had targeted from the beginning?? Value, shmalue, I think we sat and waited for a guy or 2 to fall to us(not wanting to pay for trading up) and they didnt(Gresham or Spoon?) so we traded back and gained that "HOLY MISSING 3rd!"....We have the ammo to move up to get who we wanted that didnt play CB and we didnt. Did we fear making a bigger hole between 53 and the bottom?? What are the chances of #119 making an impact or making the team altogether?? I'm in favor of improving the high end talent on this team and filling in the bottom with jags.....I'm afraid all we did was improve our middle class players....

You'll notice his name on my "name 8" board.

I see a much bigger need at guard, but Saffold would be an excellent value pick in the 2nd. I named Charles Brown too, but his lack of versatility is a bit of a minus -- LT or bust.

If there wasn't trade downs at 11,12 & 13 I might believe him. He more than likely stupidly decided he wasn't going to take any penny less than the "value chart" indicated. According to the chart the Eagles made out well with their trade up to 13 ( giving up 2 3rds ) if he turned down an offer like that he is a fool.
