Did Holmes and Marshall in the division add to drafting McCourty?

If the Jets and Dolphins don't make moves to bolster thier receiving corps with top notch WRs ,does BB look elsewhere for the #1 pick?

Springs is an old man and Wilhite has been torched often,the team needed some new talent and depth at CB outside of Bodden and Butler and I think the new receivers in the east added to the desire to make the secondary stronger against big time threats like Holmes and Marshall.

We will pick up a pass rusher in the second round and CB in this draft is far less in talent after McCourty, so thats why I think BB took Devin at #1 before he could be scooped up.

Devin might not be on defense immediately, but in a few weeks into the season,he should be involved in situations before too long and as a rookie to help try to control those 2 new WR additions to the division.

I really think if those WR moves were not done by our division enemies,the Pats would have picked a different position at #1 and a lesser known CB Later in the draft.

BB probably also saw that talent laden pass rushers after #27 were 10x more available than corners,so why not wait for them at 44?....Jerry Hughes to the Colts did hurt a little I think though

I wanted Hughes or Odrick and both now off the board to rivals stings. Hughes' size maybe did go against him as we thought it might

With Bills connection maybe he is thinking Dunlap now, and with guys like Kindle( who I don't think BB wants) or more likely the Misi's around it's not over yet.

Somewhere I read that the playing field is somewhat level for picks 16 to 45, I certainly hope so.. while I do not like McCourty, I understand the need to draft CB's

I don't think Holmes/Marshall really had anything to do with it. I think that the pick was the best player on their board at a position of need although probably not the biggest need. They have been saying for awhile that they believe the 3rd CB is a starter in the modern NFL.

If you want to point to players who added to drafting Mccourty in round 1 the more appropriate names are Springs, Wilhite, and Wheatley.

Yep, I think some people didn't watch last season. At all.

Now what they should do it make a list of CB and pass rushers and cross off those who were taken. Then they'll see why we took a CB last night and can still get a pass rusher today.

That's as rational an explanation as I've seen of the pick. "BB is worried about a position that wasn't at the top of the mediots' radar screen for Pats' 'needs,' thinks this is a special guy based on athleticism, versatility and position; he knows that there will other talents he values around when he picks next." I'll be interested to see if there's someone he wants so badly that he'll trade up a few slots to get him; Sergio Kindle?

I don't think there's any doubt that McCourty was drafted as a counter-move to the moves at WR by the jesters & doofins, and as a means to keep Wilhite & Wheatley off the field (more proof of the putrescence of the 08 draft).

Besides, a CB was one of the Best Avail. Players regardless of position. Unfortunately, that CB was not McCourty - it was Kyle Wilson, taken by the jesters 2 picks later. Bill better not be wrong - again - on this one.

Yes, but its not only adding those guys into the division, its the way the league is now where teams have 3 starting caliber WRs usually, so you need 3 starting caliber corners or else that weak link in the D-Backfield will be getting torched, even more so like we saw last year when facing Indy and New Orleans.
