I give the Patriots an A for round 1. We got a very good CB, with elite production, and elite combine numbers. He needs to work on technique and hands too things that are easily correctable. Mccourty can also be a returner and he blocked 7 punts in college! We also traded down and got a 3rd!

Anyways, here are some guys I would really like to land 2nd/3rd Rd.

1. OLB Eversen Griffen: I have come full circle on this guy. At first I didn't want him at all because I thought he was a lock to go first rd but if he drops to 44 we simply have to take this guy. He had good production this year with 9 sacks and 8.5 TFL. He has Ideal OLB Patriot Size and speed at 6-3 3/8 273 pounds with a 4.66 forty and 32 bench reps #1 at both at DE. He also played in a hybrid 3-4 in college and has experience dropping into coverage and looked decent to me doing it on tape. He can bend the edge on the rush, bull rush the Ot, stack and shed, and he has a good spin move. I have one major concern about him which is that his motor runs hot and cold but I am hopeing Pepper Johnson and Belichick can light a fire up his ass. Look at this 10 min youtube video and tell me your not impressed: YouTube - Universal Draft Presents DE Everson Griffen of USC

2. WR Damien Williams: As Walterfootball says, "best route runner in last 4 years in the draft." This guy gets seperation, runs excellent routes, has good hands, and has some speed and quickness after the catch. I think he will have a better NFL career then Dez Bryant and Demaryius Thomas. He fits in here perfectly as a #2/3 next year.

3. TE Rob Gronkowski: If we can get a first rd value TE in the second rd we have to do it IF his back checks out as Ok. This guy can catch, block and stretch the field. I think hes similar to a rich mans Kevin Boss.

4. TE Dennis Pitta: Excellent route runner with good hands. Needs to improve blocking but looks like a solid prospect.

5. DE Arthur Jones: This guy could have been a late first/early second if he didnt get hurt his SR year. He has elite strength and is an ideal 5 technique. Has great size and measurables. Will be great vs the run. Doesnt provide an elite pass rush but he has potential to improve.

6. DE Al Woods: Hes huge at 6-4 310 and he has long arms and huge hands. A bit of an underachiever in college but really turned it up SR year. Hes good vs the run but mediocre vs the pass. He still has a lot of upside and should become a much better pro then college player.

7. RB Montario Hardesty: My fav RB in the entire draft. If we can get him in the 3rd/4th we have to do it. This RB class sucks but this guy is very good. He is good catching out of the backfield and good at blitz pickup. Very good inside and outside runner. He has excellent vision and is a one cut runner. Always falls forward and drives the pile. He also gets yards after initial contact. Great spin move.

8. OLB Daniel T'eo Nesheim: An absolute beast. I really want this guy 3rd/4th RD. He is the one guy on this list that I will be pissed if we dont take! This guy has elite production with 30 sacks in college. He is 6-3 263 and his combine numbers were unreal at every drill except the 40 which he ran a 4.81. We need to take this guy as a developmental OLB in the mid to late Rds.

9. C/OG Matt Tennant/Ted Larsen: We need more competition at the interior OL and I think both of these guys couold eventually take over for Neal/Koppen down the line. Both should be available in the 5th rd.

Late Rd Sleepers:
Arthur Moats OLB
Adrian Tracy OLB
James Starks Rb
David Gettis WR
Blair White WR
Jeremy Williams WR
Zac Robinson QB
Nate Byham TE
Scott Sicko TE
Brandon Deadrick DE

Good list, see bold phrases/words. NE should be treating round two & three just like round one - look for a 3-down player who is a sure thing. I'd consider that for all three prospects where I've bolded a word/phrase.

Thoughts for Day Two:
-- CB and STs depth were lower on my to-do list, but it makes sense if you are gearing up to stop the pass to select that CB earlier, it also addressed Special Teams at the same time.
-- That said, the higher "needs" of WR, DE/OLB, DE/DT, and TE remain.
-- The bulk of the DE/DT prospects NE looked at are listed for today.
-- The two most balanced TEs are listed for today.
-- The bulk of the WR prospects NE looked at are listed for today.
-- The bulk of the DE/OLB prospects NE looked at are listed for today.
-- After crossing off the players drafted yesterday from the "short" list I drew up based on the contact thread, and the remaining CBs, the following Day Two prospects remain.

Key: Visits - prospects of interest who had medical or other questions which required a more detailed evaluation.
Plain Text - Private Workouts
Italics - prospects linked to NE through rumors, interviews, or Pro-Day attendance. McCourty fell within this category.
Underlined - Round Four projections whose value range may overlap the end of Round Three.
* Could also be under consideration for DE/DT.

DE/DT: Brian Price, Torrell Troup, Cam Thomas, Corey Peters, Al Woods, Linval Joseph, Alex Carrington, Terrence Cody, Arthur Jones
DE/OLB: Sergio Kindle, Corey Wootton*, Thaddeus Gibson, Ricky Sapp, Jason Worilds, Koa Misi, Eric Norwood, Daniel Te'o-Nesheim
TE: Dennis Pitta, Tony Moeaki, Aaron Hernandez
WR: Arrelious Benn, Damian Williams, Dexter McCluster, Eric Decker, Taylor Price, Andre Roberts, Mardy Gilyard , Emmanuel Sanders
Misc Offense: Montario Hardesty, Tony Pike, Jon Asamoah, Jonathan Dwyer, Roger Saffold
Misc Defense: Sean Lee, Myron Lewis, Brandon Spikes, Donald Butler

#44/#47 -- I expect NE to trade one of #44 or #47 for extra picks, preferably later in Round Two or early in Round Three or Four.
-- Brian Price, Sergio Kindle, Arrelious Benn, Jon Asamoah, Koa Misi, Sean Lee, Dennis Pitta, Tony Moeaki, Terrence Cody.
-- Strategy: If NE was satisfied with Brian Price's visit, he's the one prospect on this list draftniks projected as a potential blue chipper. NE has the option of trading their 2011 #1 for a higher pick in Round Two to try and get him if they feel strongly enough, they can also pool late round picks to move up for him (KC has #36 and no picks in Rounds Six & Seven).
-- I expect they will let the draft come to them.

#53: Linval Joseph, Torrell Troup, Cam Thomas, Corey Peters, Montario Hardesty, Dexter McCluster, Corey Wootton, Ricky Sapp, Thaddeus Gibson, Eric Norwood, Jason Worilds, Aaron Hernandez, Damian Williams, Tony Pike, Donald Butler

#90: Mardy Gilyard, Taylor Price, Andre Roberts, Emmanual Sanders, Daniel Te'o-Nesheim, Arthur Jones, Al Woods, Alex Carrington, Eric Decker, Jonathon Dwyer, Brandon Spikes, Myron Lewis

Day Two goals: +/- 1 DE/DT, 1 TE, +/- 1 DE/OLB, +/- 1 WR.

Well they took a corner/special teams ace 1st round so there are still questions at DE, OLB, WR, and TE. I think they start filling those needs now. Also I agree knowing how Bill likes to move around the draft I think we could trade down later into the second round and pick up a 4th round pick. Right now with the picks we have I would go

44- Sergio Kindle OLB
47- Damien Williams WR
53- Arthur Jones DE
90- Toby Gerhart RB
190- Clay Harbor TE
205- Arthur Moats OLB
229- Manase Tonga FB
231- Dane Fletcher OLB
247- Trevard Lindley CB
248- Kevin Matthews OL
250- Seyi Ajirotutu WR

With these picks we get our future pass rusher with Kindle and 2 late round guys to add competition. Get a solid #2 reciever with Damien Williams. Help the running attack with Gerhart and Tonga. Add a good defensive end in Arthur Moats. The rest add good depth to the team/competition.

bump for additional analyst input...

Excellent post. And while I doubt if there are any DT/DE types that can start for us next next, I am do think we go hard after one from your list.
