Let me start with the most obvious link:

Devin McCourty, Rutgers, NFL Draft - CBSSports.com - NFLDraftScout.com

It's an EXTREMELY favorable write-up, portraying him as a true shutdown corner who also excels against the run.

STs are just a bonus.

The obvious caveat, of course, is -- just who did he play against that it was a big accomplishment to shut down?

Ive been to and seen plenty of Rutgers games last season, Devin McCourty is NOT a shutdown corner, he is a solid corner and hes probably the best special teamer in the draft.

Why would we draft a corner when we just locked up Bodden and have Butler? I can understand drafting a CB in the later rounds but was ANOTHER CB really the biggest need for this team?

Teams almost always have 3 WRs on the field and Wilhite and Wheatley are not NFL quality cornerbacks, judging by both their play and this pick.

Pass rush wasn't a bigger need?

How bout WR?

They had Bryant SITTING there @ 24 and didn't pull the trigger...

WR wasn't. The Pats have two recent and one not-so-recent Pro Bowlers as veteran starters, with a few prospects behind them.

No Dez Bryant, no Kindle...... this guy better be the second coming of D Revis.

MY HEAD HURTS.

Devin McCourty

I went to Rutgers undergrad and I am currently in Rutgers Business School, and being an avid football fan, I have seen every Rutgers game for the last seven years. Devin McCourty has no business being drafted, in any round, period. He has terrible hands, he is a very average tackler, and he has no instincts to speak off. He has never made one impact play at Rutgers, in fact he has missed a number of tackles and INT that could have changed the game. Devin will play special trams for 3 years and be out of football in 5 years. This is simply the worst pick of the first round, the worst pick of the BB era, and is the exact reason this teams reign in the NFL is over!!! We will be fighting The Bills for the third spot in the East, and you know what I can't say we are a lock for number 3.

If they are that bad, they should be cut at this point. I thought they were miserable selections at the time. BB is a sucker for midget cornerbacks with good 3 cone times at the combine.

Another 1st round corner just went at #32. I think BB predicted prefectly there would be a run on corners and got his pick of the litter at #27.

I'll confess to having used the term a bit loosely. Not crazy-loosely, but loosely. ;)

Very true, but the Pats have far greater needs.

PS 5'11 is not a midget cornerback. Ty Law was 5'11. Get a grip people.

It doesn't matter how many "shutdown" corners you have in your line-up. If teams have all day to throw the ball, a receiver will eventually be able to get open. Just ask the San Diego Chargers. He does sound like a good CB but we had the best available value at DE sitting there and he went to a direct division rival.

Kindle got drafted? Must have missed that. The Pats have 11 more picks including three in the second round. By this time tomorrow, Kindle might be a Patriot.

As for Dez Bryant, it just save the Pats from having to cut him in two years like they did with Chad Jackson. Bryant might turn into a superstar with the Cowboys, but it is doubtful he would with the Pats. The guy was too dumb to pick up a college playbook. How was he going to pick up the Pats' playbook?

Not thrilled the Pats picked a CB with the pick, but I didn't want Bryant and the Pats still can draft Kindle.
