Cousins, not that long ago we were all on board for the Pats to Draft this kid.At 6' 5" and 240 he had his best NFL year last year with 6.5 sacks to go with 4 forced fumbles and 66 Tackles.

At 25 he is just reaching his prime. He is NFL tested and as good as any OLB I can see at #22. The 49ers just signed Laboy for depth and have Ahmad Brooks coming on strong. Brooks just signed a two year deal. On the other side Haralson had 8 sacks in 2008 and is young and should be strong again.

Lawson was the 49ers top sack man in 2009. The fact that Lawson seeks a new contract might make the 49ers generous to move him for a late 2nd rounder (?). He is not taking part in off season volunteer works outs right now.

I believe the 49ers were third in the league in sacks.

From some 49ers media."Manny obviously brings more than just his pass-rushing skills to the table. He is very solid in coverage and run support"

If a reasonable contract can be extended, I say why not IMO(DISCLAIMER)?

Thoughts?......(woa boy)

I'm convinced we are moving up with either SF or JAX, but if there were any way to move up and get Manny Lawson all in the same deal I just might not know what to do with myself, becuase the pats would be looking at a SB in 2010

Should'nt you wait until we see IF he seeks a trade? or the 49ers decide to want to do this?...this is pure speculation without basis

They will find a way to sign him,I am sure

so let the Patriots get into a contract dispute with a 1st round bust while giving up a 2nd to boot? No thanks.

Always fun to look back. Lawson was the guy I wanted in that first round. Parys Haralson, another one I loved going into the draft.
Man, I can't wait til tomorrow night!

Well, now that Carriker is gone, we've moved on to Lawson. Oh happy day.

Who says the 9ers want to trade him?

Me....... I guess. I have as much chance as anyone of the talking heads to be right. They just signed Brooks to a two year deal. He's not going to sit. They just picked up Laboy yesterday who we looked at with interest. So there is some depth.

It makes sense if you set it up, that he is in contract extension mode, that now a decent pick might be the catalysis.

Who saw the McNabb to the Skins deal?

Manny Lawson would not be the magical missing piece that would lead us back to the promised land. There are a few more holes in the team than that.

Agreed.

Bust?....no, actually he had a break out season. But so did Brooks.
Yes, Thanks.

You are correct...pure speculation on my part. Just reading some Tea Leaves with Brooks just resigning a new contract. Lawson seeking an extension and picking up Laboy yesterday (so they have tied up some $ at that slot), but the Tea could be bitter.

It most likely is...

Jack, Let's make a little side wager that Carriker plays decent in 2010. If you win I have to say that Jack Bauer is the coolest, smartest and neatest guy in the whole world and if I win you have to cut down on the insults to everyone on this board for at least a month?
Fair enough? Stakes too high?

No. The guy has had 12 sacks in four years, although one of those years he was injured for the whole year. Last year he got 6.5, Burgess got 5.

Maroney, although maybe not the best pick, was the better pick than Lawson, hands down.

I just had a flashback to 5 years ago

I don't insult "everyone" so I don't see how that wager could possibly work.

Carriker sucks, and has sucked his entire time in the NFL. Apparently you think he'll magically transform into a quality player, and while it's not impossible, it's certainly not likely. And certainly not worth risking a 5th on the chance that happens.

Well Cousin, I vehemently and without conviction disagree with that, as will most here. But I respect your opinion.

Burgess had 27 tackles to Lawsons 66. Please give me that point.
Lawson is getting better and Maroney, .......not so much.

Last year was a breakout year for Lawson. We still await Maroney.
We can compare injury resumes of these two I am sure.

I would venture to say that IF the 49ers were interested, I would make the swap of Maroney for Lawson in a nano-second. Any takers out there...Jack?
