Over the years, I've tried my best not to fall in love with prospects. More often than not I end up disappointed. We all know that story.

This year, I couldn't help it. It's Sergio Kindle. I want him bad. If he gets taken before us, it'll suck but I'll get over it. If he's there and we pick someone else, it'll suck but I'll get over it depending on who we get. There's plenty of talent sure to still be there.

Here's is my fear: Kindle is sitting there at #22, and we trade down. (and he's gone before we make the next pick)

I'll always give the Patriots the benefit of the doubt and I'm willing to give every pick they make a chance. I'm not going to be on here screaming about a decision they make. That one would take me a while to swallow though.

Of course, finding out that the compensation is great would make a big difference.

For me, it would need to be no further down than VERY EARLY in the 2nd round, with a high 3rd or possibly even a 2011 1st rounder. With a rookie cap a real possibility next season, having 3 1st round picks would be cost effective and clearly a great chance to continue infusing the team with top young talent. Also, depending on the player, I wouldn't be opposed to a pick swap into the 2nd with a player added in.

So who is your "don't want to pass up" player and what compensation would make you be ok with it?

I am going to agree with you 100% on Kindle. I think he is the player we need to grab and if we pass him up I will be dissapointed. The only player that I would otherwise want is Brandon Graham. I want either Graham or Kindle in the first. That is of course if a player like Spiller or Bryant isn't there at 22.

While I have several players whom I'd not like to see the Pats pass on, the closest I've come to a Crazy Patriot Guy "don't want to pass up player" this year is TE Dennis Pitta whom draftniks have projected from the second to the fourth round, and while I'd be sorry to see Pitta going elsewhere, I'd still be happy at TE with a blocker like Jim Dray or Nate Bynam...it's a weird draft for me.

i would not be shocked if sergio kindle, is there at #22 and the pats don't take him. i don't know way but i have a feeling that jerry hughes, is going to be the pick at #22

Re: What trade-down compensation would it take to leave your favorite prospect at #22

Dez Bryant, McClain or Spiller fall to 22, I want two seconds (one this year and one next year) or a player like Osi Umenyiora.

Re: What trade-down compensation would it take to leave your favorite prospect at #22

The guys I would absolutely hate to see the Pats pass on at #22 are McClain, Graham and Wilson.

To skip these guys, I'd have to see at least a 2nd a 3rd and a 5th - ALL THIS YEAR. About the only teams who have the trade-value ammo to do this are the Eagles, Browns and Raiders.

Re: What trade-down compensation would it take to leave your favorite prospect at #22

I have a few binkies, but only really one or two MUST HAVE's this year. It's a bit like box really.

My attentions are already aimed at 2011, where I have about 10 guys I want to see us Draft in the first round alone.

Re: What trade-down compensation would it take to leave your favorite prospect at #22

Graham is my binkie at #22. He very well could be gone. I could see BB trading up a few spots to grab Kindle if Graham comes off the board in the teens.

Every time I pop in a tape of Adrian Clayborn, Patrick Peterson, or any of the great WR class, I remember that 2011 will be another good draft to have lots of picks.

Re: What trade-down compensation would it take to leave your favorite prospect at #22

First things first...

I feel if we trade back from our first round pick this year into the late 1st round comp would HAVE to be a 2nd round pick and possibly a 3rd

If we trade back from our 1st round pick to a 2nd round pick/3rd round pick this year it would HAVE to include a 1st round pick next year (maybe a bit much)

As far as players I'd hate to see the Pats trade down and pass on would obviously be those blue chippers towards the top end projection such as

CJ Spiller
Dez Bryant
Derick Morgan
R. McClain
Earl Thomas?
Joe Hadden

Re: What trade-down compensation would it take to leave your favorite prospect at #22

I'd give up McClain to the league's worse 2010 team, accepting their 2011 #1 in return. Otherwise, no round one prospect enamors me enough to react negatively to any tradedown. In BB I trust completely.

Having three firsts in 2011 is appealing not because of specific prospects, but only because NE would potentially yield 3 starters from just one round.

Early, the 2011 overall depth dismays me - and I still have a one game stronger impression for Karl Klug over Clayborn after the bowl game against GT. If I've got a binky going into 2010 it's Klug, you can clearly see the wrestling experience in him and I love the way he stacks up bodies at the point of attack.

I think the 2011 draft with have quality at the top, just not the talent in the 3rd through 7th rounds that this draft has.

And then one has to wonder if there will even be a 2011 season.

Not sure how BB could pass on Spiller at #22. Wow! he is a special and very versatile talent. Running, passing and kick returning. He scored a touchdown in every game last season.

I know 3rd down back is not a position of need, but if BB stays true to his draft board then Spiller has to be the choice at #22, if he is there and BB keeps the pick.

Speaking of TEs and Sergio Kindle, I saw the replay of the Bama-Texas game and Peek did a pretty good job blocking Kindle. I think Peek in the 5th round (which is where he's projected) would be great value.

The only guy I'd really want at 22 is Jerry Hughes, but I'd be even happier to move down about 5-6 slots for a late 3rd, or move down into the early second and get an early 3rd in return.

What he said.

I think all four might be gone by 22. Bryant and Spiller will be for sure, since they are the premier talents at their positions, and the drop off is steep thereafter. Graham seems to be all over the board a little bit. I've seen mocks where he slides down to the 2nd, or goes in the teens. It seems that more of the updated mocks have him rising, which isn't good for the Pats. Like most in here, I think of the four mentioned above, Kindle is the most likely to be there at 22.

I think Peek did an excellent job on Kindle. It was only when Alabama left Peek alone on Kindle that Kindle beat Peek. And even then, the Alabama QB held the ball forever.

I like Peek because he is a strong blocker, but he is not that fast and he does drop passes.

Dray from Stanford is another good blocker but not the fastest guy.

The first round specifically. 2011s draft won't be as deep as this years but its first round is ridiculously loaded.

Not at the cost of drafting good players needed for 2010. The focus should be on fielding a team that is better than last year. If you draft good players now, they will be even better (or so we hope) next year. We already have two first round picks for next year. Unless the Pats get blown away, I would not defer a top pick into next year.

I don't see how trading one pick would stop them from doing so.

There will definitly be a draft next season. Some reporters say it will likely be the last NFL event of the year if there is indeed a lockout but the draft will happen regardless.

EDIT: Sorry, I thought I read draft instead of season. Oops.
