Reiss has a peice on him:

Meeting new No. 93: LB Marques Murrell - Patriots Blog - ESPN Boston

Sounds like a solid STer, so why didn't the Jests tender him?

No 2009 summary?

2008 (JETS) Played in 12 games and inactive for four contests…Tallied 10 tackles and a forced fumble on special teams…Blocking on special teams helped Leon Washington earn Pro Bowl selection as the AFC returner…Inactive vs. ARI (9/28), vs. CIN (10/12), at OAK (10/19) and vs. KC (10/26). SEASON HIGHLIGHTS: (12/7 at SF)…Forced a fumble on special teams. (11/23 at TEN)…Named Jets Special Teams Player of the Game. (11/13 at NE)…Notched three special teams tackles. (11/2 at BUF)…Notched three special teams tackles.

Marques Murrelll LB

He can throw a mean punch at a Bills tight end.

Hopefully he'll replace Aiken as the Personal protector for the punter..

Wait...why? Didn't the Jets block a punt for a TD when Aiken was out?

Competition for the Alexander. Finally.

I don't know what the deal is.....he's cheap?
He and Lewis are not players, so why they are being given a contract is beyond me, but I'll defer to Bill and hope he's not being a braindead /zKXN ZX sv.djfd/kj again.

I strongly agree with your conclusion that you don't know what the deal is.

Murrell is a competitor for one of the linebacker special teams spots. Why shouldn't Belichick bring in players to compete with Alexander and Woods for those positions?

I have no clue why you would not want a first round starter to compete for defensive line reps with Brace, Pryor and perhaps a rookie.

You don't either.
He's a CHEAP competitor from a team that didn't want him, so yeah I have MY doubts about him, although the people he is battling aren't worth the sweat ......................so he may even make the team.

I'm guessing Bill figures it ain't costing much to see if this castoff can replace the slumps at the end of the bench.
