Lately I've been really intrigued by a lot of the small school and lesser-known players in the draft, and I decided I'd throw together a depth chart/roster of players projected to go undrafted to illustrate the depth and quality available late in the draft. Bolded players I'd like to see the Patriots consider drafting.

Please play along. :)

I've gone with a three-receiver set and a 34 defense, but feel free to modify. Have fun!

Looks like you put a bit of work into this. Good job. I'd like to look back at a list of players like this one in 10 years to see if anyone turned out to be a star.

Thanks! I've really enjoyed putting this together. When I started compiling information a few months ago, the list looked quite different. Several of the players I really, really wanted were flying under the radar and have since vaulted onto the national stage and a 5th - 7th round ranking, and thus are no longer available as per the CBS rankings. It's exciting, though probably not as validating as I want it to be. Haha.

Ha...awesome. My best "team" I can assemble, taking into account not having too many of the same type players

QB Bill Stull, Matt Nichols, Andy Schmidt
RB Lonyae Miller, Andre Anderson, Michael Smith, Dmitri Nance, Jack Corcoran, Keiland Williams
WR Bryan Anderson, Duke Calhoun, Damola Adeniji, Jeff Moturi, Armanti Edwards
TE Scott Sicko, Greg Boone, Jesse Rack, Caz Piurowski
OT Derek Hardman, Dennis Landolt, Tyler Eastman, Justin Jeffries
OG/C Dorian Brooks, Brian Simmons, Ryan Blaszczyk, Phil Costa, Garrett Anderson

DE Corey Peters, Sean Lissemore, Callahan Bright, Robert Rose, Trey Jacobs
NT Ekom Udofia, Travis Ivey
ILB Brandon Sharpe, James Ruffin, Jason Beauchamp
OLB Aaron Morgan, George Johnson, Dane Fletcher, Denzel Burrell
CB David Pender, Aaron Berry, Ben Burney, Jordan Pugh, Richard Sherman
S Barry Church, Stevie Brown, Mike Newton, Chinonso Echebelem, Quentin Scott

Save 2 slots for K/P. I have long snappers in the crowd.

Yeah, and who knows, by draft time the stock of some of these people may have risen up into the later rounds of the draft. I can't wait to see what happens.:singing:

Wow, nice. Your team looks a lot better than mine. Although, to be fair, quite a few of those players are listed in the 6th or 7th round projections on the CBS Sports site. :p Even so, excellent job. I wouldn't be at all upset if we drafted a handful of those players. Thanks for playing!

What? No love for Frank Zombo at OLB?

Well, there is now. :p

You're the resident guru, so why don't you make a list? I'd like to see what you come up with, and I'll feverishly scout anyone I don't know. C'mon! It'll be fun!

It would be, though many of my choices are already listed, but I'm trying to work out a Pats mock with trades and that's keeping me busy between hunting for visit reports.

Eastman at RT could be a nice surprise.
I'd also add Richard Sherman at CB. Tall, physical, smart - IIRC, converted from WR to CB on an "emergency basis" just at the start of last season and, by the end of it was performing very well.
Ryan D'Imperio is a guy I've been looking at awhile.
Keiland Williams could be something more than a JAG.
Cody Grimm at SS (though he's increasingly likely to get drafted)
Kerry Meier at WR.

I agree that the "undrafted" part is tough to determine. The reason I didn't select guys from your team like Tim Knicky, Scott Long, Charlie Tanner, and Kade Weston is that I'm fairly sure they'll be drafted. On my list, Church, Ruffin, and Sharpe should be drafted, but weren't on the rankings I was using as a guide. I was also getting pressed for time and maybe got a little wishful thinking in there.

I guess I could replace them with Ryan Hamilton, Ayanga Okpokowuruk, and Mike Johnson. Maybe sub out Brooks since he was a Combine invitee and replace him with Matt McCracken.

Great list's guys! I'd like to throw in WR- Oderick Turner from Pitt. I really like this guy.

Oh, I was just teasing ya, mate. No worries. :)

You bring up good points, though, about the unpredictability of the latter stages of the draft. (Or even the earlier frames, when Al Davis is drafting!) I suppose that's why I wanted to discuss some of the players that could go anywhere in the 6th - undrafted. That's the real meat of our draft this year, even though everyone's excited about the four premium picks.
