I am staunchly in the Odrick camp at #22. However I must admit there is one thing that makes me nervous about the pick. Below is a list of former 1st round draft picks from Penn State.

Aaron Maybin (2009) - the jury is still out
LeviBrown (2007 - Solid pick
Tamba Kali (2005) - OK player
Jimmy Kennedy (2003) - BUST
Micheal Haynes (2003) - BUST
Bryant Johnson (2003) - Nothing Special
Larry Johnson (2003) - Worth the pick
Coutney Brown (2000) - HUGE BUST
Lavarr Arrington - Good palyer- but not worth the #2 pcik
Curtin Enis (1996) - HUGE BUST
KiJana Carter (1995) - HUGE BUST

Not exactly a glowing history !!

I think that you have to confine comparison of the PSU players to the defensive side. The history is not good with those players over the past 10 years.

Does that mean Odrick will be a bust? No. But I have taken that into consideration and I'm not sold on him 100% yet. There are some things that still bother me about him. Now if he is there in the 2nd and the Patriots take him, even moving up to take him, I will give the Patriots the benefit of the doubt that they have checked him out.

I did work out a trade senario with SF where we move up to 13 or 17 to take McClain if he is on the board. I also worked out a trade where we trade with the Vikes or KC if Odrick is still on the board at 30 -35. I don't think it would big risk to do that if we have McClain with our 1st pick. We can draft a guy like Deaderick later for insurance at that position.

So I would not be opposed to taking him in the 2nd, but I'm not looking to take him at 22 or higher.

Penn State used to be a team NFL teams would fight over to get thier players,no more - it seems they struggle to adapt to the pros

I think Posluszny will be a good player in time with the right coaching.

For those old enough to remember,we came pretty darn close to having Joe Paterno as Pats head coach in the 80s

About a 50% failure rate on Penn State players as JoPa has a good collegiate system but his NFL trail is not star studded. I am not sold on any PSU pick. I also watched Ordick in the Senior Bowl drills. Iupati seemed to own him. He was nothing special. I think that will be his pro moniker too.
Someone has to tell me why this Ordick kid is rated as a first round pick anyway? Mid second to high third is all I see IMO. Just because Kiper said it doesn't mean it is so.

First of all... Tamba Hali is more than "an ok player". One of the top pass-rushers in the AFC playing on a terrible defense.

Secondly, find a school that doesn't have a lot of busts. For every Percy Harvin there is a Chad Jackson.

You're looking at a 50% failure rate, but 3 of the 5 failures totally blew out their knees. Look at Ki-jana Carter. They guy surely deserved to be a top pick. ACL- PCL, MCL--blown out, and then blown out again on the comeback trail.

What is so great about odrick? He has measureables, but I've looked for video on him and can't see him doing much of anything in them. He usually kind of takes himself out of the play somehow. That can't be right b/c he's the big 10s defensive player of the year, but I can't find any video of him actually doing much.

I like Odrick, but Im not sold that he's worth #22. Just worries me that everyone is pegging him as the next Seymour just because he has comparable size. Right now I think they take the best playmaker avail at 22 no matter the position... WR, RB, OLB/DE, CB... and address d-line in second round. Alualu is one player who is becoming more and more intriguing to me.

Alualu's highlights are far more impressive that Odricks. He looks like a better, more solidly built (although 2" shorter) athlete.

I think you may be looking for highlight plays. One of Odrick's strengths is playing team defense. everyone wants the DE that rushs the passer every time and gets great stats. Fewer want the steady guy who stays home first and keeps contain. I'm hoping BB is one of those fewer.

The Cleveland Plain-Dealer cites a league source that the Browns are "right on" Penn State defensive lineman Jared Odrick as a potential pick at No. 7 overall.

DW - I watched the Senior Bowl and Odrick did very well. You seem to forget that, if the Pats draft him, he'll be playing 3-4DE, not 3-4 NT.

As for Odrick being a 1st round pick, I am pretty sure that just about every scouting group has Odrick rated at the tail end of the 1st round, not just Kiper.

I'm not sure the senior bowl is the tape that needs watching.

The tape that really exposes Odrick is the bowl game. A weak LSU O line manhandled him all game long and disrespected him with a single blocker for most of the game.

One more thought to keep in mind, look at Penn State's 2009 schedule. Quite a few cupcakes, not a lot of meaty opponents, so why didn;t Odrick have off the chains stats?

The thing about it though is that he was playing in a 1-gap penetrating type defense. If we do draft him, I can't imagine him playing much as a rookie due to the technique work he'll have to do. So the question is whether he's explosive and athletic enough to become the next Seymour and IMO the answer is quite clearly NO. I would go in a limb and say he may not even turn out as good as Warren.

That's exactly what I saw as well, I just don't know where BBs line is between having the size and being the right kind of physical player. Odrick sounds like the physical/competitive type but I have seen him ranked as low as a 3rd rounder by some draftniks. I guess my point is that i wouldn't be surprised to see them pass up Odrick and grab someone like Alualu in the second. I think the Raiders 2011 1st rounder is where the next Big Sey is going to have to from.

Seen some second round ratings. Please show me some links where this guy stands out? I am missing something. He seems average.

I rewatched the senior bowl last week just focusing on him, Brandon Graham and Dan Williams stood out far more to me. Odrick was okay, granted he was playing 4-3 and not trying to hold ground as he would as a 5-tech. But he didn't really stand out to me which is something, regardless of where he was playing, I'd want the 22nd overall pick to do.

You can duplicate this comparative post with any college and get identical results. Just sayin'...............

Yup, Cameron Heyward is that guy. Although I think he could be had with the Pats 1st.

Left off the first round picks since the Ki-Jana Carter draft are Jeff Hartings, Kerry Collins and Kyle Brady.
