Re: The Patriots have passed the torch to the Jets.........As NFLs Most Hated

I hope the Pats remain the most hated. I wore that a badge of honor. Hate was fueled by jealousy. Usually, the most hated team and most successful team are one and the same.

...And they haven't even won anything. Usually when you win consistently the entire league hates you because of jealousy. They are just hated.

This is not aimed directly at you.....but I for one am sick of reading threads about the New York Jets.

They have done nothing but backed into the playoffs, beat the Bungles, and got handed a game by Norv and the SD Chokers.

My cousin is a Jets fan and in early December 3/4 of the fan base jumped off the wagon. This was right around the time their dumb coach thought they were eliminated from the playoffs. Of course the fans all climbed aboard during their lucky, gift wrapped run.

But seriously... they're the Jets. Every April the NY fan base says they are Superbowl favorites. Yawn. But we all know they won't sniff the playoffs for another 4 years.

It is weird, isn't it?

from the article:

Much of it can be attributed to fan envy. With few exceptions, loyalists would love for their teams to deliver as the Jets do.
Oh, sure. Most fans would love to have their team be 7-7 and tanking and then have two teams lay down for them so they could go 9-7.

Whatever.

I don't buy that for one second. If the Patriots and the Jets met in the AFC championship, a majority of people would pull for us? I don't think so

I hope we're still hated as well. Judging by the comments below the article, we are, and peoples' hate for the Jets mostly stems from the bigmouths on their team. One of the ESPN readers who posted below that article put it best...

"The Pats have done it all and have been quiet about it. The Jets have done nothing and can't shut up about it".

That team is talented, but let's see how they do when the bullseye is on their backs next year.

Until the Jets actually win something people will feel sorry for them.

The Jets are not remotely close to being the most hated team in the NFL.
That honor, or dishonor, is still currently held by the Pats.

Go to any national sight, peruse through the comments on all articles, and that answer should be obvious. The venom may be about the Steelers this week or this month, but overall there is no doubt in my mind the Pats are still the most hated.

Put it this way: if you were to talk to say a Vikings, Cowboys, Bucs, or 49ers fan, and asked them what team they hated the most that was not in their division - what would they say?

There would be only two responses: either the Pats, or the team that has earned a lifetime achievement award in the most hated category - the Raiders. The Jets are not even close.

It's the Dallas Cowboys effect. Win 3 championships and you suddenly have a target on your back and everybody hates you. I don't seem to remember the 49ers being hated though. Weird.

the niners were before the 24/7 media days, Walsh was kind of a father/uncle figure and everybody loved Joe...

the pats on the other hand have the hooded spymaster and a QB who poses with lambs...fine by me, but doesn't fly too well outside Patriot Nation...

They really do have a high opinion of themselves over at the Meadowlands don't they. 1 AFC Championship game and they consider themselves hated stars.

Ask Raider fans in the 80s of how much they loved the 49ers.....you won't get many that did.

I live in Manhattan and know a lot of Jets fans. To me, the most interesting subtext in the current Jets story is that my friends tell me that a lot of Jets fans just don't like Sanchez all that much. The Jets' fan base is a blue-collar, suburban crowd and, so far, they are behind Mark because they have put their hopes on his shoulders, but they really aren't enthusiastic.

Rex is more their cup of tea (or, more aptly, keg of beer), but they also know he's a little embarrassing and that he's the kind of Coach they'd be mocking without pity if he were with a Divisional Rival and that they'll turn on him in a minute.

So, even the local support, while loud, is thin.

I think the hatred of the Cowpokes came from the transition when Jerry Jones took over. My old man liked them because of their "America's Team" heyday of the '70s but has despised them ever since Jerry bought the club and fired Tom Landry. (Not that you can blame Jerry, the game had long since passed Landry by.) My guess is a lot of people felt the same way, the guy had been with the team since the beginning and still wore a suit and tie on the sidelines, and then he just up and gets canned.

Plus the Cowpokes of the '90s were very ****y, and then they were in so much legal trouble.

As for the Jesters, it's hilarious they're the most hated team when they get to the AFCCG once a decade.

Replaced what?

The Patriots were not hated until 2003 and beyond. The second they dominated, people hated. The Patriots hate ultimately came from the respect people had at the same time. The Jets are hated because their like the loud mouth kid on the playground who's never won a fight but talks like he has. Big difference IMO.

They're gonna experience Hard Knocks this year, as people will be gunning hard for them every game.
They have a QB that threw almost twice as many Ints as Tds, TWICE AS MANY!
They let Jones walk, and brought in LT- I feel that's a minus, and can't wait to hear the excuses that classy loser has every week when they lose, especially when the Pats kick the crap outta them.
The loudmouth attitude will bring on badwill.

9-7 at best

10-4 on that!!

Won't sniff the playoffs for another 4 years? Man, you're delusional.
