Ok, let's get in quickly on this. This is not your standard big board.


Wes Bunting doesn't really distinguish by position value. His primary focus is how good the prospect is at their particular position. If you go back and look at the players and their descriptions, all will become clear

Wow...so from the 2 centers and 0 quarterbacks in the top 25 picks, I gather they do their rankings based on some "pure football quality" ranking, position value be damned?

It's interesting, in an abstract, useless kind of way.

Ah, we posted at the same time...

I really cannot see the point of this. Intra-positional rankings are by skill, cross-positional rankings are by value. Otherwise why combine positions at all? To say that Dez Bryant is a better wide receiver than Mike Iupati is a guard? What does that even mean, and why should we care?

What's more, he didn't even bother to rank kickers and punters, which gives the lie to the whole concept.

What's doubly more, the only long snapper listed is...Jake Ingram, Hawaii. :bricks:

I'm pretty sure he hates Texas too. Having looked at it earlier in the day, he left off Earl Thomas and Kindle from his top 30. Bunting seems very conservative by shying away from Kindle and JPP in his top 30 rankings.

Very interesting stuff.

I don't mind the way he does his rankings at all.

I suppose it's handy if you're looking across multiple draft years, as hopefully the Patriots do. For example, there's a lot of good WRs probably coming out in 2011 and you should try to evaluate what the value is of taking a Damian Williams in the 2nd round as opposed to waiting until next year.

I'm still not hugely keen though. I would like to see him weight that board by position value (QB = 10, OT = 9, DE = 9, DT = 7.5 ILB = 5, K = 2 etc) and see what the results are.
