This sure sounds like the Pats......

SFGate: Raiders Silver and Black Blog : Raiders' first pick in demand

An unnamed team has offered the Raiders a second-round pick this year and a first-round pick next year in exchange for the Raiders' No. 8 overall pick. (Well, the team has a name, but our league source wouldn't share).

The Patriots have 3 second round picks in 2010 & 2 first round picks in 2011.

The Patriots are in a better position than any other team to offer this
trade. We also have a history of dealing with the Raiders.

One of our second round picks in 2010 & The Patriots (Not Raiders) 1st round pick in 2011 for the #8 overall pick in 2010?

We would then have 2 first round picks (#8 & #22) and 2 second round
picks (not sure which one we would give the Raiders).

Re: Unnamed Team (Pats?) looking to trade for the Raiders #8 overall pick.

hopefully they don't waste it on Tebow

Re: Unnamed Team (Pats?) looking to trade for the Raiders #8 overall pick.

This is certainly interesting. If it IS the Pats, who do you guys think that BB has his eye on?

Re: Unnamed Team (Pats?) looking to trade for the Raiders #8 overall pick.

If true, it must be to get Jason Pierre Paul or CJ Spiller.

Other possibilities:

Joe Haden
Taylor Mays
Mike Iupati
Rolando McClain
Carlos Dunlap

but in all honesty, the pats could have had the raiders 1st rounder this year for seymour. we could have gotten the raiders pick this year AND kept all 3 second rounders. I think the pats are now afraid the raiders are going to get McNabb and actually be good or at least better than 4-12.

Its McClain territory.

I heard this rumor on sirius on my way into work this morning and the thought went thru my head about how we would seem, because of the picks, to be in a good position to be the unnamed team.

This rumor likely falls into the feeling out phase even if the unnamed team was the Patriots this would only happen provided the guy we want was on the board when the Raiders pick and that Raiders feel they get someone they covet with our two.

If the above is true than the question is who would be the player that we covet to move up and get? My guess would be Pierre Paul. or maybe Hayden. Thoughts?

I say Pierre Paul because despite his rawness he physically seems the perfect fit for What BBs claims to want out of OLB (height weight ECT) and he is a blank slate that a coach like BB could mold into a gem.

Doubtful. I don't know if Belichick would want to move into the top 10 without a rookie cap even in an uncapped year. Besides, I don't see the Pats making a trade like this weeks before the draft since there is no guarantee who is available at 7.

But hey, it wouldn't shock me. Jonathan Kraft did allude to not being done making big moves this offseason in his latest radio interview. It could be possible that they are going to try to get an extra first rounder.

I think if it is the Pats who are the rumored team, it is just them sending out floaters to see what it will take to move up. But if it is the case, the Pats have probably contacted several teams with picks in that area.

Just a nitpick, but "not being done making big moves"? The next "big" move they make this offseason will be the first.

lol I was just going to post that

Re: Unnamed Team (Pats?) looking to trade for the Raiders #8 overall pick.

Rumor is that Suh is dropping...

Would look good in a Pats uni. Problem is that his agent is Eugene Parker.

Re: Unnamed Team (Pats?) looking to trade for the Raiders #8 overall pick.

I don't know about this. If BB wanted this pick I think he would have had the foresight to ask for the pick when he gave them Seymour instead of deferring the pick to 2011.

Re: Unnamed Team (Pats?) looking to trade for the Raiders #8 overall pick.

I say its the jets. They will try to get eric berry. Typical tannenbaum move, the media will praise it etc etc. People talk as if the jets are so smart. Yet Braylon Edwards, Cromartie, Revis (opt out), Ferguson, and Mangold are all free agents after this year. And their constant trading of picks has left them with no depth at all.

Plus tannenbaum has had the 6th pick overall 2 years in a row and picked a complete bust in Gholston and a qb who was one of the worst statistically last year, despite a great line, run game and defense.

As much as I like Suh, it wouldn't make sense. We just signed Wilfork to a hefty contract and I really can't see Suh getting passed Tampa.

I can promise you that the *****ing and moaning on this board would have been the biggest thing since sliced bread had we let Big Vince Walk so I would call that a big move....not as big but ditto on Bodden.

As BB said some of the best FA on the market were Patriots and we came away with a couple of them.

There was never any real indication the Pats could have had the Raiders' first round pick this year. The reports were that the Pats were always interested in next year's first. They may have opted for that because the Raiders were only giving up a second rounder this year or a second and something else. I don't know if the Raiders' first rounder in 2010 was ever on the table.

Re: Unnamed Team (Pats?) looking to trade for the Raiders #8 overall pick.

BB probably wouldn't make a move like this until he was on the clock. The only way this makes sense is if he's then planning to move up again for Suh.

Or maybe he really, really wants an OT like Williams.

Ummmm.... Resiging Wilfork and Bodden weren't big moves? I know it was keeping players, but they were pretty substantial moves none-the-less.

It wasn't. The Raiders offered this year's 2 or next year's 1. Crazy Al is convinced his team will be drafting much later in 2011, so he would much rather part with it that 2010's.

Check your math because this rumor includes a 2nd rd pick. So BB could have had all the foresight he wanted he still couldn't have just switched the '11 one for a '10 1.

I heard a rumor that BB was given his choice between the Raiders 2 this year or their 1 in 11 when the trade went down BB chose the 1.

Haden, McClain, and Spiller I would add to your list.
