“I’m kinda cheating the system right now,” he said. “I’m trying to find ways to get in shape without putting all the pounding and stuff on my injuries that I had before. So we’re just coming up with new ways to do things. I bought a bike, so I bike to work on days when it’s good (weather) and stuff like that. I swim in the pool, I work out, and try to do stuff where I don’t have to put weight on my back . . . I’m really trying to get better and find new ways to get stronger rather than have to do it the old-fashioned way.”

Under smoke screen, Patriots eye USC players - BostonHerald.com

I can read that and still be optimistic about Crable's health. But it's hard to conclude he's 100%, completely unconcerned about the previously-injured body parts, etc.

yea, if he hasnt done anything all year long, and hes still has to cheat the system (considering that story is new) crable just wont be w/ the team this year

2 IR's is more than any other player is afforded

Sounds just like a lingering back issue, This can be bad, but I am guessing 90% recover from back injuries. At any rate I find no reason to think he will miss any significant time based on this report.

It would look better if you'd continued the bolding for four more words that place his injuries in the past tense.

Clearly, though, he's not fully confident of holding up.

I think if we stay with the 4-3, and if he can somehow get on the field, we might just have our SLB....

At least one of those 'if's' is a stretch though. Fingers crossed however.

Confidence and uncertainty is always an issue if you've had a long term injury. He has to get over that though and test himself at some point or he'll never be able to go out and give 100%.

Theres no bikes and swimming pools on a football field.

Yeah the article struck me the same way. You're a young guy, haven't played since college, and have had a full two years to rest your body. And you're "trying to cheat the system" so as to not "stress your body"? How do you hold up 4 preseason games, 16 regular season games, plus hopefully playoffs?

Well, he wasn't ir'ed due to a back injury, so this does explain something. Willie managed to get back from one, but back injuries don't go away. Sounds like he's been on a program to strengthen that area.

Just might be trying to not over do it too early and re injure anything.

He obviously isn't 100%

Guys a marshmallow

I don't want to suggest for a moment that he's doing anything wrong.

I'm just worried by his characterization of the correct course of action.

To me it sounds as though he is almost recovered and is only taking precautions to make sure that he doesn't aggravate any injuries so that he is completely healthy for training camp and the season. Who could blame him for trying something different as he may only have one more chance to prove that he belongs on the team going forward.

Just because he isn't on the field doesn't mean that he couldn't have been injured in the interim. It is possible to hurt yourself while training.

That said, really doesn't look good for his pro prospects. If I had to bet, I'd put money on him never playing a regular season down for the Pats at this point.

God what a waste of a pick this guy was.

I'll be very pleasantly surprised if Crable ever sees the field and has an impact.

suprised is kind of a weak adjective...astounded is more likely

I know things haven't looked so good up 'til now, but is it a little early to throw the dirt on him?

can we just wait it out, maybe?

if you're gonna root for these guys when they're winning, I don't think it's too much to ask to root for them when times are tougher.

ohh no, im rooting for him all the way to the season start....

if he doesnt show anything, then im ready to say goodbye, if he shows something, im ready to keep him

either way, im ready to make a final decision on him based on waht he shows this year

I find it very odd that in an earlier article, Crable implies that he didn't agree with BB's decision to IR him, and yet here we are all this time later, and he's still have back issues. He can't even work out normally yet. Can't be the best offseason news we've had, as Pats fans.
