So Samuel being a ballhawk who doesn't like press coverage is news to Patriots fans, and the Eagles finding out that a Pro Bowl corner isn't big on contact is cause for joy?

If the Patriots traded for Samuel today, he'd step into the lineup as the team's undisputed CB1, so I'm not sure why the article is supposed to be a funny one. :confused2:

It's not news to Patriots fans who said all along that while ballhawks have their moments they aren't worth $9.5M per year and the Eagles would come to that realization eventually...

And while he might still be the #1 CB on this roster if we traded for him today, he'd have to restructure his contract down to the $5.5-6M per range...if Kraft was even willing to pay him that seeing as he backhanded called him out recently for not JUST picking a damn ball and taking a knee with it thereby securing a 4th championship...(which was just one of his three misplays/ambles that didn't work out in that particular game).

You can develop your game to some extent. Asante came here a ballhawk with hands of stone determined to prove something. For four years he worked on those hands and made himself $56M. He's not a shutdown cover corner with the physicality to play press and the speed to recover and stick with the best WR's on the field. He's a zone ballhawk you will sink or swim with, and he requires one heck of a disciplined not to mention reasonable talented supporting cast surrounging him or you'll find yourself experiencing that sinking feeling more than you'd hoped. If guys didn't all have to be paid to he'd be a no brainer. Sadly, everyone wants to get paid.

Typical homers taking a shot at a guy who was a major contributor to some Super Bowl teams. Who needs Asante, we've got Whilhite.

We would have won the 2007 superbowl if Asante hadn't choked and let the ball go right through his hands on the last drive.

This will always be how I remember Asante, blowing a play that a top level corner should make every time on a stage where playmakers get paid the big bucks to make game changing plays.

Samuel isn't a versatile CB- we all know that, and we knew that from day one. He doesn't do everything well, but the things that he does well, he does them well enough that he's still significantly better than any of the CBs on our roster.

I still agree with letting him walk, since he wanted too much money, but nothing in this article changes the fact that he's a real talent.

Do you hold Rodney Harrison to the same standard? If he hadn't 'choked' and had pried the ball off of Tyree's helmet like he was supposed to, we win the SB.

If you're going to define players' Patriot careers with dumb, knee-jerk reactions, at least be consistent with it.

Not at all. It's been discussed numerous times that Harrison had to bail asante's ***** out. They were lucky he wasn't wide open on that play.

Samuel was a strange player. The coverage skills of Ellis Hobbs and the playmaking ability of Polamalu.

He was in a position to make what should have been a makeable play on the ball, and he blew it. Just like Asante. It's one play that he missed, so rational people everywhere can at least shrug their shoulders and say "it sucks, but it happens to even the best players". That same standard applies to Asante too, though. You can't have it both ways, and discredit the entire career of guys like Asante and Woods for one play, while guys like Harrison, Brady, and Mankins all get the free pass. They all deserve the free pass.

Um, come again? Major to Super Bowl teams?

Ironically, Asante is the one who really blew that Tyree play.

not back to the blame game.....:(

I am glad Asante is gone b/c he is not worth the $$$

IIRC, Rodney also had an INT go through his hands on the last drive as did Meriweather.

Good Lord, Rodney did everything he was suppose to on that freak play. In fact if Rodney hadn't tried so hard to get the ball out, Tryee would have hit the ground harder and the ball would have popped loose.

There's a difference between having an uncontested ball fly through your hands and trying to rip a ball loose on a freak catch. Look at both the film and still photos of that play and tell me I'm wrong.

I don't get the luxury of a credit card:( my parents don't trust me w/ 1.

They give me cash. (which is fine)

I would definitely donate if I were able to. :)

The money that could have used on keeping in Samuel went on Thomas.

Thats all really.

That's one way of looking at it. I see it different, paying Samuel 56 mil is and was not the Patriot way. Thomas was a good bet on BB's part, one of the rare occasions BB could not get a guy to fit into his system considering Thomas previous history and skill set, it should of been a perfect fit.

Thank you. I HATE it when people try to blame that on Rodney. Rodney flew in from nowhere and almost saved Asante's ***** on that play and he gets undue criticism for nearly saving the day. Asante was good for us but unfortunately the first 3 things I think about when I hear his name:

- Dropped potentially game-winning INT in the SB

- Blown coverage on the helmet catch

- High money demands

THEN after those:

- Some very good years with us

I'm sure that's very unfair but it is what it is.

Except for DBrick, Mangold, D Harris, Revis, Keller, etc.

Kudo's for Mangold, Harris, and Revis, but DBrick has been a solid but not quite elite LT, and that's not what you'd expect from a top 5 pick in the draft, and Keller did a sophmore disappearing job that was worthy of another one year wonder.

So stop touting Tanny like he's built a team for the ages. He built at team that was 9-7 and then went on a nice 2 game run in the playoffs. So what. Lets see how Tanny does keeping that team competitive over a decade.

Just like a typical Jet fan. One good season and you start posing your players for HOF busts. One good year on the field and everyone in NJ wants to make this guy EOY. He makes just as many bad decisions as everyone else. You want Kudos for Mangold and Harris, you'd better be prepared to take the brickbats for Gholston and Farve, or is Tanny in charge of only the decisions that work out well???????
