BB made the right call on this guy.

Samuel called out

While Pats fans continue to rue the loss of Asante Samuel [stats], there are people in Philadelphia who aren't completely enamored with the Pro Bowl cornerback.

Apparently, following the playoff loss to the Cowboys, first-year defensive coordinator Sean McDermott expressed exasperation over Samuel's refusal to play press coverage, along with his unwillingness to tackle.

Whatever, he's still one of the top corners in the league and I still wish he was in a Patriots uniform.

Yeah, he was a good player and we could benifit with him on this team.

So Samuel being a ballhawk who doesn't like press coverage is news to Patriots fans, and the Eagles finding out that a Pro Bowl corner isn't big on contact is cause for joy?

If the Patriots traded for Samuel today, he'd step into the lineup as the team's undisputed CB1, so I'm not sure why the article is supposed to be a funny one. :confused2:

Sounds like Cromartie.

Liked Samuel as a player, but thought from the onset that they overpaid for him.. he started his last season with us as a nickel back, and went to the top of the class too fast.

Typical homers taking a shot at a guy who was a major contributor to some Super Bowl teams. Who needs Asante, we've got Whilhite.

Whilhite is a Jet?

But did you read the article? It was Philly folks taking issue with Asante.

He was good. He wasn't worth what Philly paid. I don't see why that is so hard to understand.

Tannenbaum knows what he's doing in the draft room, Whillhite was probably a FA on their draft board.

I'll take a physical corner who excels in both man and zone coverage any day over a guy who's good at making INTs but whiffs when it counts the most and disappears in the running game.

I'll take any physical defensive player who excels at tackling over a 'ballhawk'.

Darren Sharper is a prime case, people love him for his ints. But he frequently blows coverage and shys from tackles. I would be livid if we tried to sign him.

I'm taking a unicorn over an Arabian stallion any day as well.

So you would want James Sanders over Darren Sharper? That is essentially what you are saying.

Sharper is extremely aggressive and physical. He doesn't shy away from tackles at all. He does miss some tackles, but it isn't really a weakness. His problem is the angles he takes in support. He is also selfish when the ball is in the air. I remember Griffin would have had an INT one time but Sharper leveled him well going for the ball. Favres pass bounced into the air and into the hands of Greg Jennings for a TD.

I agree with you.. And to say Sharper blew a lot of plays.. Remember they were brining in a new mix of players.. And help really help stablize their back 4...

I would love to have Samuel back. He, Bodden, and Butler would make for a ridiculous defensive backfield.

Why should this make me happy? What, exactly, has "first year Defensive Coordinator Sean McDermott" ever won in the NFL? He's a local Philly Boy who has done well in Reid's system and who has now succeeded a legend as DC.

Asante would still be our number one Corner if he were playing for the Pats, and losing him was still very unfortunate. Basically, the quote says that Asante is who he was; I'd take him back in a flash, even with those issues.

There isnt anything Space.

Lol, I realize the implausibility in the first part of cherry picking the ultimate player.

Regarding my sharper comment though;

Yes I would take Sanders, Sharper makes some big plays but doesn't change the fact that Sharper is known for blowing coverage in pretty big moments, just watch some of his tape from this last season lol.

Historically 4th and 26 comes to mind.
