What if Dez Bryant slides to twenty-two?

Would New England select or pass? Or, would they trade the pick in order to trade down with a team that wants Bryant at twenty-two.

I don't think that he'll end up sliding that low, but you've to expect the unexpected during the draft.

To answer my own question, it's a matter of talent versus trouble. Is Dez Bryant trouble waiting to happen on your team? Besides, I don't trust drafting a wide receiver over a safer pick in a tight end. Sure, there are a few wide receivers who could go in the first two round who intrigue me. But drafting a tight end is the "safe pick" for the Patriots in terms of selecting a wide receiver or tight end. So no, I would pass on Bryant. If you're New England, you've to think strategically. That is, you turn this situation into obtaining a third round pick this year.

I would rather just see the Patriots give #22 for Marshall. I mean, at least Marshall is a proven trouble. Bryant is way to much of a risk.

About Moss, Minnesota took a gamble on selecting him because they'd Cris Carter and Jake Reed. For the Patriots, more pressure would be on Bryant to produce with Moss having an expiring contract and Welker out indefinitely.

If you were to select Bryant, added pressure would then fall onto Edelman and Tate as well. That is, if for whatever reasons he [Bryant] isn't ready to contribute as a rookie.

Bryant better to be a sure thing, he better be the AFC Offensive Rookie Of The Year.

"I'm just ready to go out there and play football again," he said. "Whoever drafts me, I want them to know what they spend is worth every bit of it. I want to get on the field early because I can make a difference."

We should trade down and get cheaper and less difficult and less talented players. We wouldn't want another top receiver who is perceived to be a problem. NOT.

There are two wide receivers that are very likey ready to start and produce. They won't be there in the second round. There are others who could surprise and produce in their roiokie year for the patriots. Those receivers could be found in the second, the fourth or the seventh.

He will slide to 22 because of the question marks about this guy but he can keep right on sliding as far as I am concerned. No way the Patriots nab him even in the second and I agree.

Dez Bryant was late a few times to team activities. You do a little reading on the kid's life, and you realize he has a little bit of a Terry Glenn thing going on.

Terry never got over it. But that doesn't mean Bryant can't or won't. In the NBA, you have guys like Caron Butler who straightened out.

Bryant's problems are nowhere near as bad as Randy Moss's or Pacman Jones or Chris Henry or any of those guys. He hasn't been in trouble with the law. He hasn't done anything really wrong. He has simply been a lazy 19 year old kid.

You know, Richard Seymour had a similar rep at Georgia.

It would be a mind bogglingly stupid move if the Patriots passed on this kid at 22.

As for trading for Marshall, did you forget about his salary?

Yeah, we all know BB's all about taking a risk on a 1st round talent with maturity issues. I mean why would he pass on such an "obvious superstar"? I sure wish we would have found a way to get Charles Rogers, and all those can't miss USC WR's. I mean they were all touted as can't miss prospects just like Bryant. That's just a short list there were plenty more that are no longer even in the NFL.
The guy has major maturity issues, and sure he hasn't committed any crimes...yet. Give him some money, and his less then sparkling background, and let the party begin. The guy pals around with Pacman Jones for christ's sake! He's not very inteligent, and will have extreme difficulty adjusting to the Pats system. He does not fit here. Golden Tate would be more useful to this offense if you're looking for contribution in their rookie year. He comes from an offense that is as traditional an NFL system as you'll find, and last time I checked he did pretty well in it.

Anyway, a lot has changed in 9 years. It is a much bigger risk nowadays to take a risk considering salaries, and our wonderful new commissioner, and his policies.
