I guess we will wait until april 12th or so for the games to be announce, but usually they say them during the owners meetings.. I know we will play T day, but was curious if we play at the jets opening weekend...

That would be so awesome. MNF Jets opening day, new stadium, fireworks, etc. I hope we come out and destroy them by 21 points. That'd shut up the critics and the chicken littles.

The pats need to crush the Jets morale, because they think they're **** don't stink right now.

I think they were going to make some announcements but changed there mind, I can't remember why.

Personally, I hope the Bills host the Patriots in Toronto as it would a lot cheaper for me to see them in Toronto as opposed to Boston. I base my hope on the fact that the Bills have hosted the Dolphins and Jests in there previous "home" games at the Skydome.

To answer the OP, I believe they postponed the announcement for some reason that I can't recall.

Not likely. They had Bills-Patriots opening day last year; I don't think it likely that they'd do another AFC East matchup as well. [It wouldn't surprise me if the Patriots specifically requested not to do it again, or if the NFL has internal rules that prohibit it.]

We all know that they are waiting to see what Favre is going to do before they announce the games.

The reason they gave is that the schedule maker was "not far enough along in the scheduling process."

Something tells me, though, it has more to do with the recent announcement of trying to make as many week 16 and 17 games divisional games. I'm guessing here, but it wouldn't surprise me if the scheduling process had already begun before this edict came down from above and caused some confusion.

They are trying to avoid a repeat of the Colts laying down the last couple of years and affecting other playoff-bound teams by having the last two weeks be divison games. not foolproof, but unless a team is really locked up early, playing division opponents the last couple weeks should help. I guess for some reason it is hard to schedule.

I'd always thought the last six weeks should be all division games. That way no team is really out of the playoff race, and all games will have some significance.

In the recent past the NFL has first announced the primetime games at the spring owners meetings, and then the full schedule a few weeks later. In 2008 the NFL announced the kickoff weekend games, the London game and all the primetime games on March 31, and then the full schedule on April 15. In 2009 the dates of the two announcements were March 23 and April 14. Four days ago the league said they haven't locked in the full schedule so they wouldn't be making any schedule announcement at the annual meeting.

One theory is what's going to happen with opening weekend with the Jets and Giants had to be resolved to keep everyone happy. Remember the Jets objected to the secret coin toss that went in favor of the Giants getting to play at home in week 1, and supposedly the schedule was being re-worked so the Jets could also play a home game in week 1 on Monday night.

There's another theory out there that because there has been a lot of discussion by fans and the media of the overtime change the NFL decided to hold off the announcement. Once that dies down they will say something. The idea is that the NFL likes to keep itself in the news for its fans as much as possible all year long. So rather than let the media and fans focus solely on baseball during its first week of games, the NFL makes sure to announce something during that time. That's pure speculation of course, but not out of the realm of possibility. The NFL markets its product better than any other sport and does manage to keep itself in the news twelve months a year.

The Patriots played the Bills opening day of 2006 and the Jets opening day of 2007 so I doubt that the NFL has an internal rule that prohibits it.

YES! I'm only 90 minutes from the Skydome er... Rogers Centre. I think that pretty much HAS to be the plan, this year.

I can never bring myself to call it the Rogers Centre, it will always be the Skydome to me. It would be great for the Pats to play there as it would also be the first time being there in person. I've watched so many sporting games on TV from there. It would be a awesome chance to be there live. AND a Patriots game to ice the cake! :D

Didn't it have something to do with the Jets and Giants whining about wanting to be first in the new stadium so the league gave each of them a home game on week one (one Sun, one MNF ...duh) so it required a reworking of the schedule....

But those weren't MNF games. . . .

Its because they are waiting on Favre to make up his mind..thats all there is to this.

I think it's the Jets/Giants thing. Remember, they usually are always opposite- one is home, the other way. Now the same in week 1, they will have to be the same in another week, unless they can resolve it with good use of the byes. I'm sure that complicated everything, plus the divisional only games for the last 2 weeks...

They were going to but then delayed it because there was "more work to be done."

(Just like last year when they delayed the release of the entire schedule)

So that means we're all waiting until August 18th before the league announces the season schedule? ;)

For some reason I'd just rather not play them the 1st game.

Well I guess they'll tease us one announcement at a time.

Preseason schedule coming tomorrow - Extra Points - Boston.com

It's the dead zone between free agent signings and the draft, so I guess the NFL has figured the buzz from the OT rules change has died down, so now they'll announce the preseason schedule tomorrow.

I guess another week or so and they announce the primetime games, and then a week after that the full schedule. Hats off to the NFL, they've figured out a way to keep themselves in the minds of sports fans all year round even when there is absolutely nothing of any substance going on.

I don't believe anyone mentioned it yet but ESPN has the Schedule Release special listed as being on Tuesday, 4/13 at 4pm EST.
