Mayock is now listing Toby Gerhart as the fourth best running back in the draft after Spiller, Ryan Matthews and Jahvid Best. BTW he lists McCluster as tied for the fifth best back with Joe McKnight.

Gerhart is 6' 235 with a 4.6 forty time and can play fullback and tailback. High character guy.

He sure would look good hitting the holes on those fourth and short plays that BB likes to go for.

Mayock is predicting he'll go in the second round.

One of my favorite players in the draft. I have him as the 2nd best back behind Spiller. He'll be a main back, not a full back. His forty was 4.5. He reminds me of Corey Dillon and would happily draft him with any of the 2nds. Check his game by game stats, they're nuts. His game against Oregon he got 39 carries for 200 yards. He won the Doak Walker over Mark Ingram.

My top 5 backs.

1. Spiller
2. Gerhart
3. Matthews
4. Tate
5. Best

I agree that he is a main back, but Mayock pointed out that he could also play fullback- which would add to his value as a Patriot.

O, I get you. He could have an immediate impact by starting at FB and then wait a few weeks. By then our RBs of glass get injured and he'll be playing RB.

Got the link to the Mayock info on the RBs, or was this T.V?

In terms of the Patriots, I was thinking he could play FB in short yardage situations- the way they use a lineman now. Mayock just mentioned it as another thing he could do. PFW lists him as a FB, but I agree with you that he's a main back.

It was on "Path to the Draft" a couple nights ago I believe. I DVR them, so I'm not sure of the exact date, but it was this week.

I would love to see the Pats draft this guy and add some power back into their running game. I like Sammy Morris, but the guy can't stay on the field. Taylor might still be productive in limited action and Maroney is...well Maroney. They could sure use Gerhart.

Patsinsnow knows I like him.....

I just don't believe using a 1 on a RB is the way to go right now. Unless Maroney is traded, which I hope.:)

I like Toby a lot.. I see him being drafted sooner rather than later. He is gritty. I like how he played at Stanford.

Gerhert is a power back, he doesn't seem to have a lot of moves as far as evading guys and redirecting, so he might be a bit one dimensional. Ideally I'd love to see a running corp with a powerback and a quick finesse guy that could keep the defense off balance and deliver nice 1,2 punches.

Also, get a damn FULLBACK! Trying to just use other RBs, TEs, or OLs just doesn't get the job done the same way. There are a few decent ones that we could probably pick up as UDFAs though I'd prefer Peyton Hillis.

Mhm, we know Gerhar is the opposite of Maroney, and we want change.:D

I'd be happy for the kid if he's a first round pick, but he should be there at #44. The Chargers could steal him from us at #40, but I hope they pick Jahvid Bust.

I like gerhart. I think that he dosn't get as much credit as he deserves because he is white. If he was black people would stop associating him with a fullback. I mean, he ran like a 4.52 at the combine, didn't he?

Mayock thinks that some will get a great value with gerhart in the 2nd, and also with tate in the third. I tend to agree.

Wasn't he traded to the Browns for Brady Quinn?

Yes, maybe we could trade them Maroney in exchange for Hillis and a 4th :woohoo:, that might be a tad optimistic though.

I totally agree. I wouldn't draft Gerhart in the first, but I'd give him a long, hard look with one of our seconds.

,.

I couldn't agree more.

I don't know why but he seems like a Patriot kind of guy.

Agreed 100%, but given all of our needs I don't think drafting him would be the best value for the pick needed for him.

He has the potential to be an upgrade over Morris. The problem is Morris is on the roster. I guess if Gerhart falls into the late 3rd the Pats could take him there to compete for Morris's spot.

A second round FB? No thanks

I think you meant to type 'late 2nd' ;)

Considering that we don't have a 3rd, and that Gerhart would never last that long anyway, I agree that we should take a long look at him should he fall deep into the 2nd. I'd be just fine if we took him early 2nd--to be completely honest with you.
