I am not at all impressed with this team. If anything, I think our hitting has gotten worse since last year. Teams are going to be running on VMart all year long. Bucholz is the same, Dice-k, a 100 mill bust, Wake is good when healthy, Beckett's best days are behind him, Lackey will emerge as our ace, Lester is very good, but CC is better. The pitching has improved for sure, and so has the fielding, but does defense really win championships? I think the Evil Empire has the AL east on lockdown for easily this season and possibly the next. I think this team does not even make the wildcard as Tampa looks to be resurgent to me. We desperately need 1-2 boppers as Papi is all done and Bay is gonzo. Sign AGon by the all star break and we could make the playoffs. My prediction: It's going to be a painful year to be a fan.
What say ye?

I say we're four months and counting 'til the start of training camp. :singing:

i say you must write for the globe...you are way off

Such optimism.
I think it will be an exciting year with some good defense and pitching.
I have to agree that our hitting is going to be the Achilles' heel of this team.
Always have hope.:rocker:

We need some better hitting for sure. POWA BABY!!

Really depends on the pitching and run production. Somewhere around 90 wins I would think.

Agreed. If they can score more than the opponents on a semi-regular basis, it might be a good year. :singing:

I think we will be really good. Our offense is being underrated, we don't have those two big hitters, but we will be a team that gets on base, steals bases, and drives the runs in with small hits. Instead of being a team of big hitters we will play more small ball, and I think we have the perfect team to do that and win big.

I'm not sold on that we can do both at the same time. We might be in for low scoring games most of the season or blow out losses, thus my comment.

Our pitching is fine. Our season and chances to take the division back from the Yankees really depends upon our hitting, obviously. This is where I hope that Big Papi returns to his former self.

Yanks have better hitting than us by a mile, and believe it or not, better pitching as well. Rays have better hitting and if there bullpen gets it together this season, watch out. I don't think this this sox team makes the playoffs this year. Papi is all done. He cannot hit elite pitching, period.

Wow are most of you people for real? The sox have one of the better teams they have had in recent history...There defense is upgraded by a mile and will save tons of runs and scutaro is an upgrade as a hitter at SS....Victor makes up for varitek and lowell combined in the hitting....Beltre will have a very good year and paired with cameron they will out hit the production bay gave us....Also I really like bill hall coming off the bench as he can play any position needed....We are going to win about 7-10 more games this year than last year because of our upgrades in the field and our huge upgrade in pitching....You guys can hate but the Sox will win the division this year...

I thin kthe line up has been elongated this year, compared to last. From top to bottom, there isn't a certifiable out, like the team had with Tek, & Agon. The line-up could have six or seven 20+ homer bats. The defense should be terrific, and the front 3 are arguably the best in the league. Pen = solid as well. The problem, if they have one, will be versus good pitching. Their line up can be pitched to, and without a bopper or two to carry the team when some are struggling, the team could see some rough stretches where they score 5 runs over 3-4 games. It'll be an interesting year for the Sox I think. They could easily make the playoffs, and possibly win the division if the Yanks fall apart. The problem is Tampa, and the potential wild card challengers in other divisions. I know we say it all the time, but the WC might not come out of the east this year. Seattle, Texas, Chicago, Minny, Detroit, and the Angels, all have a chance to be pretty good.

Real World the thing is they are all "ifs" at the moment. The upgrades and quality are there, but I'll have to see how they go first and the chemistry in the team before saying much else.

I may be one of the few but I expect Big Papi to have a great season this year....Not a 50 hr 130 rbi type season but i will say 35-40 hr's and 110-115 rbi's.....He lead the Majors in hr's between June and October of last season...He had an offseason that he could lift weights and fully prepare for this season with no setbacks.....I really believe that the chemistry will be high, players know there roles, the pitching overall is better, the defense is better and the offense I believe is better with no holes.....How will this team not be better than last season? You still have to remember that we could still trade for A. Gonzalez during the season which would put us as the front runners in the AL.....These are my thoughts and I am optimistic....But I just can't see how you think we will struggle this season....

I have a feeling Sox may pull a fast one at the end of this season and go after Carlos Pena. AGon price tag may be too high.

I think they would pull the trigger to get Agon but my only thing would be where is he going to play? Are we going to send A Beltre to the bench? I know that youk/Agon overall would be an upgrade over beltre/youk but would it offset what we would have to give up to get him....I think them going after beltre this past offseason might offset them going after Agonz this season....I think they should dump Dicek and bring in another stud pitcher on a bad team......Lincecum anyone? I can wish right....lol

I would be willing to be a significant amount of money right now, that the Red Sox will have one of the top 5 team SLG, OPS, and OBP in MLB for the year.

Yeah, Bay is gone, but people seem to be forgetting how terrible Varitek and GreeLugo were.

There's not a single team in baseball, the yankees included, where that doesn't apply.

Without a bopper or two? Kevin Youkilis had the 2nd highest OPS in the AL last year.

Red Sox 102 Wins this year .... :rocker::rocker::rocker:
