3 #1's next year?

Depends on what team it is and who is there. It'd be very difficult to pass up trading away a middle 2nd rounder for what could be a top 10-15 pick next year(or even better). If it's the Colts/Cowboys or somebody, I'd probably say no thanks. Otherwise, considering that pick was originally a 3rd...maybe too good a value to pass up. If you trade one of the 2nd's, you still have 3 day 1 picks.

I think it's more likely that, if the player we like isn't there at one of our 2nds (or we think we can get him with the next one), we'd trade it for a 2nd next year and a 3rd this year to get us back in the 3rd round.

I agree with this thinking too. A couple of thoughts:

1) At some point we have to stop trading everything forward into future drafts and instead take the players we need.

2) A top 10 1st round pick in 2011 is much more useful than a 2011 1st rounder from a playoff team. If we do trade a 2nd for a 1st next year, we need to be careful who we trade it with.

That might be true of the depth of the Draft, but not with regards to the first round.

Next year's first round will be sick.

Agreed I think BB will def take a wait and see aproach.. if his guy or guys are there at 22 he takes them but if they are not or if he is getting calls from .. my Jacksonville or somebody like that for Tebow.. than I would take a 1 next year.. and a 3 this year..

That would make 2 potential top 10 picks in HEAVY loaded top part of the draft.. w/ no rookie scale

It would also not surprise me if he traded one of the #2s for a player.

#22 for a #1 next year and #2 (maybe early 3) this year depending on the team.
Any second rounder for a #1 next year.

Other then that. I'll throw my TV out the window.

What stinks is that the Pats can't trade any of the compensatory picks. Four 7th rounders. Hopefully they land 4 Edelmans!!

That makes a lot of sense. There are going to be talented players in round three this year.

Now that you mentioned it I had to look it up. There's only one real Endelman look-a-like in this year's draft, Joe Webb.

Joe Webb UAB 6-3 223, 2299 PYD, 21 PTD, 1427 RYD, 11 RTD
Julian Edelman 6-0 198, 1820 PYD, 13 PTD, 1370 RYD, 13 YTD

Next year there are a few Endel-clones: Ricky Dobbs NAVY, Colin Kaepernick Nevada, Dwight Dasher MTU, Josh Nesbitt GT

Hell, I'd strongly consider trading this year's #1 and next year's #1 from Oakland (probably a top ten pick) to move up for Ndamukong Suh or Gerald McCoy if the early teams get really stupid and either guy falls around #5 or #6 overall.

Richard Seymour Jr FTW. :)

4 Edelmans!!

Great. Now I have a mental picture of a five-wide set of Edelclones. :p

Seriously, though, imagine if they got four Edelman-like steals with their comp picks. :D

It's funny you bring this up because I was thinking about next year, too, but in the opposite tack.

I was thinking we should keep our #1 from Oakland, and trade our own #1 for an additional #2 and #3 this year, or flip our #2 this year packaged with a our #1 from next year for a mid/low #1 this year.

That sounds about right to me. Ideal is if the Pats could:

- Get a 2011 #1, with a reasonable expectation that the #1 could turn out to be top 15
- Still have 4 picks on the first 2 days in this draft

In last years draft, I was hoping that Belichick would trade with the Panthers for their 2010 #1. They didn't have a #1 and Fox was on the hot seat. The Panthers did make the deal for the 43rd pick and that traded 2010 #1 turned out to be the 17th pick...and was close to being even higher since the Panthers improbably won their last 3. If you had the chance, would you trade Ron Brace for the 17th pick in this draft?

This year's target would have to be the Bears. May be even more of a "perfect storm" than the Panthers last year:

- No picks this year until #75
- Angelo and Smith are on a serious hot seat to deliver results this year
- A key hole at OT still remains unfilled
- May not be much left at OT by pick #75
- One of the "big 5" OT candidates should still be on the board at #22
- Their 2010 schedule involves the AFC and NFC East

So if Belichick is sitting at #22 and not liking the value, I could see trading down from #22 to #75 and picking up the Bears 2011 #1. With Cutler at QB and a relatively difficult schedule, that 2011 #1 has the potential to be better then you might think. And #75 this year is still a good spot to pick up a WR, TE or CB.

With the time between picks being shortened to 8mins I belive .. I think the FO is going to have allot of things preparred so they can react quick when there picks come up..

I would pay TOP dollar to see an all access coverage of Draftday War Room w/ the BB..

I rememeber Bill Belichick once saying that a lot of draft pick trades are discussed prior to the draft starting, in case a team's preferred picks have gone by their draft slot. It's then fairly straight-forward to call up the teams you discussed the trades with and make the discussed trade happen.

(obviously it is still frantic in practice though)

Yep. Many scenarios are discussed and contingently agreed-upon if they play out once draft day is in full-swing.

However, with 1st round Day 1, 2nd and 3rd rounds Day 2 and 4th thru 7th rounds Day 3, in theory there is more prep time and assessment from the previous day's action. With that said, it is possible to see more draft-day trades (like there aren't enough already  ).

Or we could use one of our #1's next year on Cameron Heyward or Jared Crick ;)

This has been said already, but I'm going with "no". This draft is too deep and we already have two first rounders next year.
