I apologize if folks have already discussed this. After all, we know the management of KC fairly well. I would expect that we could do pretty well with 36 and 68, perhaps Sapp and Carrington. In any case, we would end up with a high 3rd.

Depends on how the cards fall. I'm starting to think the Pats should trade out of their pick (if possible) and acquire as many picks as they can. In addition, I don't think anyone will be there to help their biggest need on defense (pass rusher). The Pats had the right idea last year when they traded out of the 1st round and acquired multiple picks. Again, this draft is deep and hope the Pats consider trading out again and acquiring more picks. Like last year, the value was in the second round as many good players dropped out of the 1st round.

I would do that deal in a minute if the impact player the Pats want/need is not there at 22. Having four 2s and a high 3 might present greater value than keeping the one. It all depends on how the first 21 picks shake out. This is shaping up to be a fun draft; I can't wait.

It's a good trade, I presume it fits the value chart?

I definitely want a pick in the 30s, no point in trading down too far.

I agree, it's a really deep draft and there's a lot more value in the second round. It makes perfect sense, but if BB trades down again, I can imagine a huge chunk of the posters here to have a heart attack screaming over it.

Of course it also depends on who is there at 22. If we have the chance to get a top 10 talent who is falling (like Wilfork did), that'd be tough to pass up.

We certainly do know the management of KC fairly well, so the question that comes to mind is: if the Patriots see better value at 36 & 68, why wouldn't the Chiefs? What player do you picture them targeting who would be significantly more valuable to KC than to the Pats at 22?

Thou shall not covet thy neighbor's lower round draft picks...unless you're talking Cleveland, then it's just lawful plunder. :p

Not to mention I don't know why Pioli would suddenly be a "trade up" guy, the only times he did that here were very small trades up, not something like this. If we trade down I expect it to be a small trade, 22 to 26, for example, for a specific player, or, possibly for a QB if a QB needs team gets itchy about Colt McCoy. I think he is the clear #3 (with Tebow as a developmental guy) and some team may want to trade up if he fits their system.

All that said, I would take 36 & 68 for 22.

If they take Eric Berry at 5, they might want to grab one of the remaining tackles, e.g. Bruce Campbell or Charles Brown.

If they take Bryan Buluga at 5, they might target someone like Earl Thomas or Chad Jones who are unlikely to fall out of the 1st round.

What they need is playmakers, who are increasingly difficult to find as you go down the draft. They aren't terrible at any particular position, they aren't good at any position. It's just wholesale mediocrity and they may feel that they are better off taking a player in the 1st who is more likely to succeed (and make the others around him better) than taking two players in the 2nd/3rd who won't be NFL-ready starters and may simply 'fill holes' rather than make plays.

The Patriots, in contrast, are very good at some positions and very bad at others.

Like I suggested in the trade scenarios thread they could be targeting one of the 2nd tier OL. With GB and Philly at 23 & 24 respectivley and both possibly looking for OL help this might make sense for KC.

btw according to the value chart it does equal out.

540(36) + 250(68) = 790
780(22)

Maybe throw in a 6th or better yet trade our 4th(119?) for one of their three 5th rounders

Any chance we can get Pioli's email or phone number and send him this post?

I'd do this trade in a heartbeat. No questions asked.

I agree. If Kindle, Graham, and Pierre (whom I know next to nothing about) are gone, head for Jerry Hughes territory. The second round, where he's expected to be.

I also would love to see the Pats be able to draft one of my favorite receivors I've seen since Pitt's Larry Fitzgerald. Notre Dame's Golden Tate. He's a bigger, stronger, just-as-fast Deon Branch.

Would you consider trading next year's first round pick from the Raiders for a team like the Broncos so we can land McClain?

As much as I want the Pats to fix their damn weakness at OLB, I wouldn't want them to risk a 1st round pick on them. They either come out a DeMarcus Ware or Vernon Gholston. Jerry Hughes was always productive in college and I believe he led the nation in sacks last year. If the Pats select an OLB early in the 2nd round, I'd be happy with that.

I don't know much about Golden Tate (is that his real name?) but a lot of people on this board seem to like him. If they miss out on him, another option for the Pats could be Damion Williams from USC.

No, the draft is too deep to trade up and the Pats have too many needs. If it were 2007, then I wouldn't be apposed to it. In addition, as much as I like McClain, the Pats can get better value and try to land Brandon Spikes somewhere in the 2nd to 3rd round range (that's were most mocks have him right now).

Yes that is his real name, his father, Golden Tate Sr. was drafted in the fifth round by Baltimore in 1984 (I think)

Tate is the #1 receiver on my board. Size and route running are minor issues, but he is a playmaker and very dangerous after the catch. He also brings tremendous value in the return game. Is #22 too high for him, yes, it is a bit too high for him. Could BB move down 3 to 5 spots and still get him? Probably.

Williams on the other hand runs very good routes and is probably the best route runner in this draft. (I say probably because the USC passing game has a funky route tree that makes projecting their WR's very difficult into the pro route tree.) Should be available at #44, easily.

The big thing is Willams can probably excel at the X receiver position (very hard to project USC WR's), not sure if Tate can. But Tate would be awesome on bubble screens and reverses.

The WR from Kansas, Brsicoe could be an excellent X receiver in our offense as well.

Cody or Williams possibly.

Cleveland is the most likely trade candidate IMO. They have lots of picks. If BB's OLB is there he grabs him but he'll trade ANYTHING away if it is not the right value.

Unless KC is willing to give us #50 - not 68 - plus 36 for #22, then I'm not interested. 14 spots is a long way to fall; there is too much talent in between who can help us.

I know that Bill did something similar last year, by trading down 15 spots (from 26 to 41). But he also had #34 already, just 8 picks later. No such luxury this year.

I don't hate the idea of trading down except for the fact that we'd have to wait another day to see the Pats first pick. :)

KC has more holes than the Pats. And their needs would also be different.
That being said, I don't see the Chiefs packaging picks to move up unless they feel they are getting a can't miss player.

I'd expect the Pats to swindel... err deal with GMs of teams who are more desperate to make an impact. Let's say Detroit, JAX, Cleveland, etc. Pioli's job is pretty darn safe right now. I can't say the same for the GMs of those three teams.
