Patriots officially sign Crumpler

What would you be willing to give up to get Olsen though? Personally, I would only give up 1 of our 2nds, preferably our last one and maybe a later round pick

I'd only give up one of our second round picks as well. If I had to, I would throw in a 2nd and a 7th.

Yeah I like that as well. I would think the Pats would make that deal as well if the Bears would go for it.

What's the deal with Tony Scheffler, anyway?

I wouldn't mind trading for Olsen... I met him a few times at Miami and he seems like a nice enough guy. But I only think it'd be worth it if they planned to actually utilize the TE in the passing game. He'd be a nice option for Brady.

guys I want youth....

can't Pitta or _______ be had w/ 1 of our two's.

can't think of name we just had him in for a workout as well

Scheffler would be a nice option/consolation prize as well. Though I have to admit ignorance as to his situation.

I'm thinking Indy is going to go after Pitta.

Greg Olsen is 25.

he will be out of his rookie contract soon and will want more $$$$

it is not a sure thing we would lock him up.

I think after this yr..... he needs a new deal

it might be 2 but I really think it is 1.

McDaniels doesn't want him, which I wouldn't think bodes well for the chances of the Patriots wanting him enough to give up compensation.

Is it Scheffler's blocking skills that are turning McDaniels off? Granted, I only saw a few Denver games last season but, when I did, I saw Scheffler make some pretty big catches.

not sure the true reason why we do not use TEs in our offense, perhaps the past personal has not been up to par. But seeing that we already have had two first round picks at TE (Watson and Graham) and both are gone now, I really don't want to go down that road again of having a high round pick (or giving up a high round pick in a trade) only to see the guy used once or twice a game at most, i have had enough of that for the past few years.

If he is going to be used, then great lets get a solid TE, but if not a guy like crumpler is fine with me, a good blocker for our running game, but still got the legs and hands to be a threat and catch a few balls a game . . .

He and McDaniels clashed all season, culminating with Scheffler riding the pine for week 17. I've never been impressed with his blocking, but he's reportedly been a bit of a mouth since even before McDaniels arrived.

Broncos | Scheffler not permitted on sidelines, in locker room

Updating an ongoing story, Ed Werder, of ESPN.com, reports Denver Broncos TE Tony Scheffler will not be permitted on the sideline or in the locker room for the team's Week 17 game. Scheffler has presumably been benched after he was overheard telling teammates that he couldn't wait for Denver's season to end.

That's not the way to win the heart of a Belichick tree coach.

I'm fine with a 2nd a 6th for Olson, but only if we have an agreement with him for a contract extension.

And given we released Baker for locker room issues, it would seem unlikely we're going to give up much for Scheffler in that case.

Yeah I just don't see how he would fit into our offense not to mention that attitude. It seems that he hasn't generated much interest from other teams because of that unless Denver's asking price is too high. The one team that I can think that would trade for him is Washington but I can't see it happening unless Cooley gets traded because they are loaded with receiving TEs.

From what I remember he was pissed with the whole Cutler situation (friends?) and how it went down but also it didn't help that he can't block as well as Graham who then became the starter naturally.

Re: Patriots Officially Sign Crumpler!

Huge addition for the Pats. Although his route running and pass catching abilities may have eroded a bit with time, he is an immensely capable blocking TE who fits the Pats' scheme very well.

PFF has him ranked the 9th most productive TE in the NFL last year.

Great signing! :D

His hands are fine, what eroded was his athletic ability and ability to separate from defenders - a result of him putting on weight. He's a great blocker and will be reliable on short passes (especially given what we are used to watching with Watson)

I know he and Cutler were tight, and it wouldn't surprise me if the whole Cutler situation made him into a malcontent toward McDaniels.

If thats the case, I don't think he'd be a fit here. I can see being bent out of shape for a couple of days but sulking an entire season because his buddy got traded is unprofessional IMO...

Re: Patriots Officially Sign Crumpler!

Someone that can lay the wood down and catch a pass. The passing attack will be a lot better because of what he can do with the running scheme alone. glad its official.

If he can play like he did 3 years ago, yeah. If he plays like he did last year, hes a downgrade from Watson.
