See here:

In a little late-night deal-making, the Patriots [team stats] have officially secured a tight end for the 2010 season.

Alge Crumpler, the veteran who previously played for the Titans, has signed with the Patriots, the Herald has learned. Crumpler had visited on March 8.

The two sides had reached an agreement on March 18. It’s official tonight. Terms are not yet available...

I like this move alot! :rocker:

Respects,

Intriguing. I don't know what to make of it just yet, but at least there's a real TE on the roster. :D

Re: Patriots Officially Sign Crumpler!

I like this signing a lot. Welcome to the NEP Mr. Crumpler...........

It fuels my hope we don't select a TE with the #22 pick!

Crumpler was really good with Falcons. I nice big target in the red zone with good blocking skills. Excellent signing!

True dat. His catching has fallen off, but he's still a stud blocker, and that's always a good thing, especially as a veteran who knows what will be expected of him

Re: Patriots Officially Sign Crumpler!

Someone that can lay the wood down and catch a pass. The passing attack will be a lot better because of what he can do with the running scheme alone. glad its official.

Re: Patriots Officially Sign Crumpler!

We will still need at least another TE, we only have Crumpler and a couple of JAGs. Moeaki in the 4th for me.

The good thing about bringing in a vet like Crumpler is that he can pass on his knowledge to whoever we draft.

Re: Patriots Officially Sign Crumpler!

He isn't going to make a 50 yard reception but he will move the chains, clear the path and protect Brady. And nullify some premium pass rushers.

I'm Happy.

I like. He will help.

Re: Patriots Officially Sign Crumpler!

I am liking this very much.

I would rather have a TE with average catching skills with excellent blocking skills, compared to TE with excellent catching that can't block in our system.

Huge addition for the Pats. Although his route running and pass catching abilities may have eroded a bit with time, he is an immensely capable blocking TE who fits the Pats' scheme very well.

PFF has him ranked the 9th most productive TE in the NFL last year.

Great signing! :D

Re: Patriots Officially Sign Crumpler!

Our new blocking TE. He should be a good one too, he looked like a DT playing TE last season

Re: Patriots Officially Sign Crumpler!

I think he'll help. Good signing.

Re: Patriots Officially Sign Crumpler!

Solid signing, typical BB move. I hear he's a great locker room presence as well, which is really critical this season. He's a well-respected vet too, and should prove that veterans will still come to NE, and that the crying from Adalius won't stop free agents from wanting to play here.

Re: Patriots Officially Sign Crumpler!

Cool now he can be officially regarded as the 6th offensive lineman.

If those stats are to be believed, he's a much better run blocker than Watson (no surprise) and a similar player to Chris Baker - but presumably with a stronger work ethic if the reports on Baker are correct.

Regardless, we desperately need to be able to run the ball so this is good.

As much as I think Kiper is an idiot, I hope his prediction of the Pats selecting Brandon Graham at 22 comes true. Unfortunately, I doubt it will. The Pats had a better chance before the Dolphins signed Dansby. I have a feeling that might be the guy Parcells is targetting. Gotta hope that favorite to be drafted by the Dolphins, Dan Williams, doesn't get scooped up before him.

Very nice!

I too love this signing. Crumpler can still get open on the shorter routes and is an extremely effective blocker. He can help in the run game as well as help against the edge rushers we face every season like Dwight Freeney and Aaron Schobel. Good pick up. Now let's secure a receiving tight end. Here's hoping for Greg Olsen.

This is a solid signing by the Pats. He'll do a great job blocking, catch a few balls and by all accounts is a high character guy.

What would you be willing to give up to get Olsen though? Personally, I would only give up 1 of our 2nds, preferably our last one and maybe a later round pick
