Lets for the sake of it say BB does not have another brain fart and draft down out of round one talent again and we keep our #22 this time.

I would bet anything that the team either selects a WR or OLB as the round 1 pick

Would you rather a top ranked WR or OLB as our first round pick?

OLB.........:rocker:

It all depends on who is available. If Golden Tate is still there I would like the Patriots to draft him.

Basically I'd like the best player on the board that matches the Patriots needs.

Don't rule out defensive end, offensive line, or tight end either.
And if Spiller is there and Odrick isn't, I wouldn't be surprised to see him be the pick at 22.

Personally, I'd prefer a WR. I just don't see an OLB worthy of a number one at this point. I like Misi, Sapp and Hughes in the second round.

I think there may be a couple of receivers that warrant the #22 - Bryant, Tate, Benn.

Odrick has been the pick at 22 for so long now, I have become completely unenamoured with him.

I'd really like to trade back. With four picks in the second, I'd add WR, TE, OLB, DE (thinking Hernandez, Hughes, Carrington and Gilyard). I'd probably like to add Decker in the 3rd or 4th too.

OLB easily. I want Greg Hardy at 22. Best pass rusher in the draft.

I like Hardy too, but he'd be a pretty big reach at pick #22.

Neither. I'd rather see a DE drafted in the first round.

Unless they are blown away by a deal, the Patriots should be able to pick up an impact player at 22. Depending on who falls to them, I'd love to see them get a stud OLB in that spot. If not, then a WR or TE. They should be able to get a value pick for a guard or tackle in later rounds.

I wouldn't want to see them reach there, but Maurice Pouncey may be tempting at this spot, even though I don't see them doing it. Then again who thought they would take Mankins in the first round.

No he wouldn't. Just because dumb mocks all have him going 3rd round or lower doesn't mean he's that low on real teams' draft boards. There's no way a guy that big, athletic, and talented will fall past the 2nd round. The Jets have meet with him multiple times already and I think they're going to draft him in the 1st if the Pats are dumb enough to pass on him. AFC East will belong to the Jets if that happened.

Looks like someone has a binky. Holy overreaction, Batman!

i want a 3-4 DE at #22 but if it came down to sergio kindle, or dez bryant, i would take kindle,

Well, since the only WR deserving of a first round grade is Bryant, I'll say WR.

I'd rather have a pass rushing LB, but none of them will have as big of an impact as Bryant, who I rate as the best WR to come out since Cal Johnson.

So, WR.

BTW, Kindle will be going in the late second round because of the combine.

fav prospects for rounds 1-4. Kindle, graham, odrick, wooton, misi, pouncey, charles brown, anthony davis, veldheer, hughes, hernandez, pitta, benn, dez bryant.

either, these are our two biggest needs IMO and Id be happy if we adressed either one but if I had to pick one it would be OLB without a doubt. To those who want a DE at 22 I still dont understand why. 1, DE isnt as big of a need as OLB and honestly Odrick may be the best DE availabe at 22 but hes overrated IMO, hes blown up since after the season ended. 2, doubt he'd come in and make a real impact, look at what Jackson did in KC, Odrick isnt on the level of Jackson coming out of LSU last year. Mike Wright has proven to be solid, not to mention Pryor could also see time in that role but who the hell will be rushing the passer opposite of TBC? Burgess? Nikovich? Id rather have an impact player at 22 as opposed to a guy who wouldnt be much of an upgrade over what we have.

I agree with you about a DE at 22. I like Odrick but you can get equally as good 5-tech prospects in the 2nd round like Wooten, Carrington, Oghobaase, or Al Woods. Taking Odrick at 22 would be weak value and a mistake IMO.

The issues are the difference in potential between
a 22 WR and a second round WR
a 22 DE and a second round DE
a 22 OLB and a second round OLB
a 22 OG/C and a second round OG/C
a 22 RB and a 2nd or even later round RB
=================
Even if we agree that we absolutely MUST draft a high impact OLB,

A) it does NOT follow that the OLB that is available at 22 will be much better than the one availbale at 44 or 47 or even 53.

B) And just because we NEED and OLB to step right in and be an impact player, it does not follow that ANY of the OLB's will be impact players in their first year. I expect our draftee OLB to be part of the rotation with Banta-Cain, Woods and Ninkovich.
============

And just BTW, as of now, we have two open openings on the DL, for players to take over the reps of Burgess and Green. Maybe some of you think that we can just increase the reps of our studs Wright and Pryor. I tend to think that we need help at DE.

Cool way of looking at it.

Unless Bryant is somehow there at #22, the difference between #22 WR and a 2nd rounder is slim. I give golden tate a 2nd round grade.

A 22 DE and a 2nd round DE could be a decent dropoff depending who is there.

A 22 OLB and a 2nd round OLB is a BIG dropoff IMO. I think #22 will be an OLB.

I doubt we would take a linemen in round 1 this year. Too many other needs.

IMO, there is no runningback deserving of a round 1 grade. I think Spiller and Best can't be everydown backs. I don't see any dropoff.

What OLBs that will ONLY be available at 22, won't be available at #44 or later. And why are they SO MUCH better than 2nd round prospects? That's what I'm wondering. They look to all be in the same pack and most of them don't fit BB's exact size/speed requirements for OLB anyways. Graham? Please, too short (6'1), stubby arms (32"), and a conversion project to boot.

Who else outside of Graham won't be there in round 2? I don't see anyone special, I see a lot of 'maybes' with potential though. And to expect any rookie OLB to make an impact with the Pats in the first year? I don't see that either.
