Possibly a total of 12 picks for this year

Most, if not all, of those picks will be at the end of the 7th round. So yes, you will have four additional picks but they are pretty much from what would otherwise be the rookie free agent pool. Nothing to sneeze at, no substitute for smart shopping from the free agent veteran pool.

That's where we found Edelman. He was a comp pick.

It might allow us to package some picks together to move around a bit in the draft.

I don't see us needing another 12 players in the team.

Hopefully you're correct, and we find some great future talent. I don't see us needing 12 more players either.

Not with our coach and his economist's heart. Usually, you do one round better when you trade a pick a year into the future. The problem with that trade, this year, is that a current 5th round pick might actually be more talented than a 4th next. This is a crazy talented year. I see him moving up and down in this draft instead moving picks into the future.

So that makes Brady, Edelman, and Cassel as late round comp picks--that's insane!

Cassel wasn't a comp pick, but he was a 7th rounder. :)

Here's another comp pick, though:

Some one mentioned trading picks around this year, and I don't disagree, but aren't comp picks untradable? I can't remember is this is true, or was true but isn't true anymore? Having untradable comp picks still allows you to trade your other, tradable picks with fewer reservations, but does anyone know this?

Comp picks (still) cannot be traded, but the Pats already have two 7s.

Don't forget David Givens and Patrick Pass, amongst others.

Correct. Comp picks cannot be traded.

lets turn at 7th rounder in 2010 into a 2016 1st round pick. trade this years into the 6th next year, that into a fifth the year after, etc. etc.

If this draft is very deep then there should still be some potential in the 7th round.

Oh, my bad. I thought that's why you posted Cassel's pic.

David Givens was my absolute favorite, just loved the guy. Good possession receiver.

It's one of the deepest ever, with many underclassmen declaring because of the threat of a rookie cap next season.

This is why I feel the Pats are putting far more work into scouting than FA.
