Extra Points - Patriots to check out Damian Williams
According to Ed Thompson of Scout.com, New England has set up a meeting with Williams for the middle of next week, in advance of the Trojans' March 31 Pro Day. Thompson also reports -- as ESPN's Todd McShay did on a conference call yesterday -- that Florida TE Aaron Hernandez was worked out privately by New England.

Some SC receivers have flamed out in the pros (Mike Williams, Dwayne Jarrett), but I'd argue that Williams is closer to ex-Trojan Steve Smith, of the Giants, than the others. He's real polished, very smart, and should be ready to step in and contribute right away. If you can get him in the second round, I'd say he's a bargain.

# New England will meet with USC wide receiver Damian Williams at USC on March 24--not to work him out, just to meet with him. But they will put Florida tight end Aaron Hernandez through a rigorous private workout on Thursday, March 18 as they continue to look for ways to bolster their talent at the position for the 2010 season. Williams was an All-Pac-10 first team pick last year at both wide receiver and punt returner. During that season he made 70 catches for 1,010 yards, scoring six touchdowns. He also averaged 14.2 yards per punt return, finishing sixth in the nation in that category. Hernandez was a 29-game starter for the Gators and made 111 catches for 1,382 yards (12.5 average) and scored 12 touchdowns during his college career.

Glad to hear this. I really like this guy as a WR in the 2nd round. Kind of reminds me of Reggie Wayne with the way he runs routes and just makes plays.

USC's offense really struggled at times last year, with the freshman QB. Williams still managed to put up good numbers. He could be a real stud with the right tools around him.

If Williams turns out like the Giants Steve Smith, a 2nd round pick for him would be a bargain. The Pats need a polished route runner with some speed to plug in at #2.

I like Williams a lot - while I kind of have a thing for Demaryious Thomas, Williams is a more of a Patriots type recevier. I'm still intrigued by Thomas but if I were doing a mock draft on what I expect then Williams would be a very strong contender at 2a.

Is the draft here yet?
